Duvan Tomas Perez, killed working in a poultry plant.

Michael Schuls, killed working at a logging company.

Will Hampton, killed working at a landfill.

This is why child labor laws exist. Companies can't be allowed to turn to kids when adults refuse to work for poverty wages. huffpost.com/entry/teen-poultr

The sausage-making of anti-trans propaganda is on full display today as a tweet from Ian Miles Cheong about a week-old Dr. Marten's Instagram post became a Fox News story.

The original Cheong tweet has 130 RTs. You truly can't make this stuff up. #trans #journalism

Today marijuana finally is legal in Minnesota. I personally don’t enjoy its intoxicating effects, but I’m a huge fan of expunging past marijuana convictions, safe and taxed distribution, expanded access for those who use it medicinally, and letting the people who just want to use it because they like it have legal access. This legalization, and many other reasons, is why voting for democrats is critical. Happy 4/20 in August, Minnesota!

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson 🔥

Slate:
Jackson may have helped stave off disaster in a handful of key cases, steering the court away from hard-right results through tactical deployment of originalist and textualist arguments. Unlike Breyer, she expertly wielded the conservatives’ own tools against them. She spoke the language of the right to promote left-leaning principles. And from time to time, she beat the 6–3 supermajority at its own game.

"How do you misgender someone?"

When someone, in good faith, tells another person what their gender is, with words, or with how they present themselves and that person intentionally ignores them and talks about them as if they are another gender that's misgendering. It's almost always really rude.

It's like if you meet a guy whose ID says "Robert" and he says "call me Bob, I hate Robert" and you make a point of still calling him Robert.

The evidence that cars don’t work as primary mass transport in cities is everywhere: traffic jams, air pollution, accident rates, the shocking fraction of city space taken up by parking spaces, safety barriers/bollards etc. This 100 year experiment should be declared over, and we should put proper effort into the systems that HAVE been shown to work and scale: walking, cycling, e-cargo bikes, cheap/accessible/reliable public transport. This “argument” about LTNs is just lazy delay. #LTN #cities

Biden is up against a twice impeached adjudicated sex offender under indictment for espionage and a Florida man who has good things to say about slavery

…and it’s close.

What’s that tell you about america?

Consider "Hey Black people! Don't be on Twitter! They hate you more!"
Vs "Let's make the Fediverse better!"

Consider "Hey Black people! Don't vote GOP! They hate you more!"
Vs "Let's undo the systemic racism in the Dem party!"

Consider "Hey African countries! Don't trust Russia and China! They hate you more!"
Vs "Let's start truly partnering with Africa!"

If you were Black, you would see through the self-serving message, so it's strange that folks don't get that Black folk see through it too.

I assume you get why it's not a nice thing to say that "slavery helped black people in some ways" but I think some people miss why this particular idea is *exceptionally* racist.

One of the main arguments to justify slavery was that it "civilized" black people by making us Christian & teaching us obedience to our "betters." Black people were "lucky" or "better off" as slaves.

It assumes that when people were enslaved they had no skills, nothing to offer, that they were basically animals.

Journalist Ed Yong continues to cover #LongCovid and #MECFS with immense clarity. This new article is so important. It shows how our traditional understanding of fatigue is totally undermined by these illnesses.

"American society tends to equate inactivity with immorality, and productivity with worth. Faced with a condition that simply doesn’t allow people to move—even one whose deficits can be measured and explained—many doctors and loved ones default to disbelief." theatlantic.com/health/archive

If you're planning to delete your twitter account, consider that if any creep in the world dislikes you they can register your abandoned username, impersonate you, and spread lies about you. It happened to my friend. It sucks.

While we wait to hear back about the Vision Pro labs, I figured I'd put together a list of tips for how to maximize your time at a lab like this. This is based on similar past experiences. Time is your enemy at an event like this and so being efficient and thoughtful ahead of time can greatly increase what you can get done in your slot.

If I'm fortunate enough to get a slot I’ll update the article if there are things I learn specific to visionOS which I can share.
