I upgraded to watchOS 10, and it’s so interesting – like someone joined the team and said, “why do we do *that*?” 100 times.

- Was side button multitasking useful? Not really.
- Was the zooming grid an effective way to find apps? Nope.
- Did we need the clock in the app list? Nuh-uh.

Controversially, I’m also glad “swipe to change watch face” is gone, because I never did it on purpose 🙈

It takes a lot of time, energy, and bravery to execute this kind of root to branch rethink – well done! 🙌

The child tax credit cut child poverty in half in the US. As soon as it expired, child poverty went right back where it was. Poverty is a choice — a policy choice. We could end most poverty today by just giving people money — that's exactly what the child tax credit did.

Not all poverty can be directly solved with cash payments, but most poverty can. Far and away the number one cause of poverty is not having enough money. And when someone has other problems too, money makes those other challenges easier to face.

For decades — in fact most of a century since the early forays into a welfare state — our society has had the means to almost completely abolish poverty and deprivation. We just… keep deciding not to. The example of the child tax credit shows just how easily and quickly cash payments can end poverty. That choice continues to be available, and the implementation is so straightforward.

The number one cause of poverty is not having enough money. When we give people money, they stop being poor. We have the money, and we have the means to give it out.

One thing that constantly surprises me is how many people believe that maximizing shareholder value is some sort of legal or moral obligation, not an ideological convenience made up out of whole cloth by an economist in the 70s. San Jose had a Viva Calle event today, partly running through downtown. I saw quite a few people out on the streets on bikes, plus people on skates, scooters, and on foot. More of this please.

PSA: If you see a woman respond to a troll, it is never--ever--helpful to respond to her with something along the lines of "just ignore them."

She's probably ignoring 100 (or more) for every 1 she chooses to respond to. She knows that the path of least resistance is to ignore the troll & move on. She doesn't need you to inform her of that option.

A response is a conscious decision. You are *not* helping when you criticize (because that's what this is) that decision.

I can't tell you how good it feels to cruise down the street with a month's worth of pantry supplies on a friggin bicycle. This machine is magic.

@danielpunkass I’ve only been gone from Apple for 3 years so I doubt the culture has changed much when it comes to the security of personal information. For example, this API was argued over, modified, and pared down for months because engineers kept thinking of possible ways it could be misused. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/devicecheck

The culture of protecting my personal information is why I continue to use Apple products including Safari.
