Juneteenth is when the racist state of Texas took another very public L. Texas did everything it could to keep slavery going as long as possible. They gave up land to Oklahoma, so they could be below the slavery line. The Alamo was a victory for abolitionists.

Now, almost all of Airbnb’s new screens and components in our latest launch were built using SwiftUI, and the vast majority of engineers said that SwiftUI made them more efficient without regressing the user-facing quality of their screens.

There will be a blog post published soon with many more details, but suffice to say that SwiftUI is definitely ready for broad adoption, and if adopted intentionally can improve the experience of building even the largest scale iOS apps!

The new CoreDevice stack talks directly to your watch, so app installs finish in seconds and debugging sessions work reliably. (Yes, full debugging sessions! Breakpoints and logging!) I‘ve done dozens of deployments and each one has worked perfectly. No more restarts!

It’s like testing in the simulator, except it’s on your actual watch. During WWDC week I woke up for a morning lab, fired up Xcode, and attached a debugger to a complication to reproduce the bug while talking to the engineers. It’s *that* reliable.

I was expecting a bit more noise about this but I’ve been doing watchOS debugging in Xcode 15 for the last couple days and here’s what I have to say:

Works.

If you work on Apple Watch, you should get on this *now*. I am 100% serious: it will change your entire workflow.

Sometimes, you know something exists (like Xcode Playgrounds) and how to use it, and yet fail to see the possibilities in terms of how you can integrate that thing with your regular workflow 🙂

The “Prototype with Xcode Playgrounds” session was such an experience for me 😛 I watched the session and immediately realized that there were so many ways that I could have used Xcode Playgrounds in the past to make my work easier!

Give it a watch, I’m certain you won’t be disappointed …

In What's new in Swift I mention the performance improvements from the new Swift implementation of Foundation. Performance came up a lot when we first put the open source package live, but wasn't easy to talk about until the new OS betas were available.

One common trope at the time was “it isn't faster than using Objective-C, this is just to reduce Swift bridging costs” and while that's true, it's important to note Swift is _just plain faster_, as seen even when calling into it from ObjC.
