Sometimes I think about how a higher percentage of every purchase I make goes towards the Visa/MasterCard tax than it does towards my public schools.

Destroyed buildings in #Lahaina are in red, per WSJ. Near complete destruction of a good portion of the town. #Hawaii #wildfire #disaster https://www.wsj.com/articles/hawaii-maui-wildfires-36-dead-6e07f2b7

Dozens of people in Maui have died and hundreds have lost their homes because of wildfires, fanned by hurricane winds.

Here are some ideas for how you can help, including community funds and nonprofits you can donate to, and drop-off locations if you live in Hawaii.

Heartbroken for Maui. How much longer will we sit and watch things burn before we truly act like our house is on fire?

No I don’t want to give you location access.
No I don’t want to sign in.
No I don’t think this would be better in Chrome.

How about instead of “don’t be evil” we go for “don’t be obnoxious”?

Also Apple please add a block all future requests for location from this site option.

People are so mad at me for promoting my YouTube, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that you have to diversify when it comes to platforms.

Also, I’m really proud of the videos I’ve been putting out there and have a lot of big plans for my channel! Sorry for telling u guys about it constantly, but it’s a big focus for me and I have been working hard on my videos!! https://youtube.com/@TaylorLorenz

My God, Lahaina has been wiped out as 80mph dry winds knocked down power lines and set Front Street ablaze. Local cell and internet communications are down so there is very very little video or damage assessment available but what we have seen shows catastrophic damage to the town, Wailoa church, and Hongwanji temple https://www.mauinews.com/news/local-news/2023/08/maui-on-fire/

How to help those in Maui.

We always win when we actually show up. You’d think we’d have showed up a bit more reliably before things got this bad. Now we have to show up like this. A lot. Because this ain’t over. It’s barely begun.

If you live in #Ohio and are a registered voter and haven’t voted in the August 8th special election yet, today’s the day. Polls are open from 6:30AM to 7:30PM.

New gender just dropped

I honestly don’t understand why it had taken so long for this antiquated and homophobic policy to change.

Nobody was arrested on Jan 6.

Does it make up for things, a little that people have been tracked down & charged? Yes-- but if there had been mass arrests that day a lot of people would have been swept up who didn't personally attack anyone or break anything.

Since the arrests are based on video, targeting the people who took the most violent actions, 100s of people were able to walk away.

That's fine IMO... except it's *not* how things "normally" work when crowd gets out of control.

It's the last week of my Japan vacation now (😭), but on the plus side the nice folks at the Tokyo iOS Meetup invited me to speak at their meetup tomorrow. I'll be giving a new SwiftUI talk, mentioning at least one feature I haven't seen anyone else cover 👀 https://www.meetup.com/tokyoiosmeetup/events/295043128/

John Eastman not only tried to subvert the 2020 election, he was motivated to do so by a mix of fringe-right culture-war terrors and utterly ludicrous, debunked voter-fraud claims.
