@Moon @freemo there was a good interview on a podcast of someone who's a moderator for tiktok and she talked about how absolutely horrible the things she has to watch are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2-RffABu_g

I know for a fact this tech is old because the company I currently work for has EoL this stuff internally already and had started transition a few years ago.

Ironically, they still use py2 instead of py3 because they don't want to pay anyone to rewrite everything. The few people who tried used a conversion script that broke everything anyway.

That being said, said tech is still expensive as demand is still low- typical consumers don't buy XDP to MIPI adapters or get excited over additional features in oscilloscopes they stole from other groups.

@niconiconi

I wish this were true, atm its looking like its the other way around...

@niconiconi
Most of the IT people I currently work with don't know half of this- and actively work with it.

Am I the only one who pays attention???!!!!

#TIL Back in 2005, John Gilmore and Zooko (both are well-known cypherpunks) told Linus Torvalds he should avoid using SHA-1 in git right now before it's too late, since it was already theoretically unsound. Linus completely rejected this suggestion. :blobfacepalm: He said the attack is theoretical, and git's hash is not meant for security anyway - if you want to use git securely, you should only trust your local tree and never pull code from a public server. :blobfacepalm:

This decision basically summarizes the upstream kernel community's historical attitude on security mitigations...

RT @zooko@twitter.com: I, too, begged Linus not to use SHA1 and he (indirectly) mocked me for it. IIRC I suggested that they use Tiger-192 instead. If they had, it would still be working fine and would not require an upgrade.

I'm starting to get desperate here- and I'd rather not resort again to "a devil's bargain" as I've been trying to stay clean.

For the first link, it says what the problem is- but doesn't exactly say what the solution is. Only says that it can be potentially prevented.

Tldr; recycle symbol doesn't make it recyclable.

Unless you can give a tldr, I'll watch in about two hrs from now.

@Pat @freemo @johnabs you honestly wouldn't be able to tell.

Even if it was correct as a bot- it could have been a human regurgitating bot output as a proxy.

@Pat @freemo @trinsec
He said matter cannot be created or destroyed.

My comparison is that matter doesn't go away (destroyed), it just gets swept under the rug(is hidden or moved) until it gets kicked up again (is brought back to immediate perspective after a reaction).

"Sauce?" Is internet speak for asking for the source of something. He provided sources in response.

I've yet to respond to that though...
