Does anyone know a book on the history of Akihabara?
I don't mind it including ancient history, which I already know, but I'm really interested in details about how otaku culture took over the area, the chronology, the shops and the cafes.
Language doesn't matter.
The only believable rumor I've heard has been that Evangelion merch got widespread enough to be stocked in electronics/PC stores, and with competition, the floodgates opened, and I do know the first underground idols started to appear around 1999/2000, which puts the few years in between as the Cambrian explosion of otaku culture.
I'd really like to know what happened in the 2000's too.
