The truth is...
It's unknown whether the naked mole-rat can pass the mirror test because no ethics committee will approve the experiment due to the potential for psychological #trauma to the test subjects.

The ejection of Parler by infrastructure companies like Google, Apple, and Amazon is neither a new nor a surprising development. But it nonetheless represent a significant departure from the expectations of most users. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/01/beyond-platforms-private-censorship-parler-and-stack
We're thrilled to say that Fosstodon is now a proud member of the #EFF.
This is thanks to all the donations our members make, where any excess funding is donated to worthy projects.

So far, only nation-state level hackers can copy the targeted 2FA hardware device. So if you lose yours, if means the state is interested in you.
@eff Social media companies should not give in to this pressure. If social media companies comply with the law, the Turkish authoritarian government wins without a fight. YouTube should not lead the retreat. 11/

I was looking through the #Gab code repository for a Hacker News discussion, and it was a weird feeling.
In the #Dresden Files, early on, Harry Dresden talks about how he'd always been taught that Magic comes from life, from the heart, and is a force for good - and how incongruous it was to see that magic being twisted for horrible goals, by the bad guys. That's what this felt like, to see the familiar open source tooling and conventions that I see every day, being used for twisted hateful purposes there.
Somewhere out there, someone writing an oppressive mass surveillance tool is running `git amend` since they oopsied their last commit. Someone running a malware website is adjusting their CSS values. Someone profiting off child abuse is reading syntax discussions on StackOverflow. It's a weird, icky feeling, to see these worlds collide.

There is something that all internet users should agree, regardless of the political ideology anyone has.
The corporate centralization of the internet, both in software and hardware infrastructure, is harmful for everyone. You can see that happen in lots of ways, like in various ways of censorship, data being sold to the advertising corporations and hoarding of lots of addresses that could be used by people, to name a few issues.
We must eliminate this cancer on the internet as much as we can.
Running free software and making your own ecosystem vs running all apple or google or generally accepted proprietary systems is akin to shopping at the store and buying produce and eggs vs raising chickens and growing a garden. Yes it's more work but when ecoli infects all the spinach you're good, when eggs are out of stock because of hoarding, you're good. When the stores payment system is offline, you are good.
Machine learning is a hotbed for racially biased decision making. Seemingly cute robots capable of calling police on supposedly “suspicious” people are no exception. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/01/police-robots-are-not-selfie-opportunity-theyre-privacy-disaster-waiting-happen
WhatsApp users beware: the app will now force users to agree to share data (i.e. phone numbers, other people’s numbers stored in address books, location, etc.) w/Facebook (even if you've previously opted out).
Time to switch to @signalapp!

This just in, the actual colors white and black are now racist and shall be banned from all use in society and the words considered hate speech.
Come on now, there is **real** racism out there to worry about and arguing this nonsense only allows the real racism to thrive by making those of us who are truly against racism look completely discredited by association.
You think you are helping, but you are perpetuating racism with this stuff.
how you figure, I associate white lists with bad things because they block by default, and therefore block the whole universe, those on the list would represent the privliged few, and elite... ergo i associate white lists with bad not good.
Black lists the reverse they are inviting by nate, inclusive to everyone and only exclude a few people, therefore I associate black lists with good.
Forthermore its complete nonsense to think everyone is going to associate the actual color white with race.
I guess by this logic we cant make vanilla icecream white anymore because that would associate white with good, and we can no long depict poop as brown/black because people will associate that with race too..... The level of absurdity that "we cant have bad things that are the color black or good things that are the color white" are so monumentally beyond absurd I am astonished anyone is arguing this in earnest.
