The reason old recordings sound bad is not because of microphones, but early tape tech. Anything that wasn't a charcoal microphone was good enough for voice, even the first-gen thick-ribbon BBC-Marconi microphone.
After all, the SM58 has been around completely unchanged since the 60's.

Browsing through and came across this gem::

"Library = A book library which has a whole system and staffs to manage books. API = A librarian who provides me a simple access to a book which I need."

I should get off while I can.

I founded Picosecond Pulse Labs (PSPL) in 1980 in Boulder, Colorado, USA. The company made ultra-fast risetime (5 ps) pulse & 40 Gbs pattern generators, 100 GHz sampling oscilloscopes, and ultra-broadband (flat responses from kHz to 60GHz) microwave components, including amplifiers. PSPL was sold to Tektronix in 2014. Tek laid off most of the staff and moved production from Boulder, Colorado to Beaverton, Oregon. A small handful of engineers remained in Boulder. Eventually, by 2019, Tek closed the Boulder office and discontinued the entire product line. Today, you can only find PSPL products on the used equipment markets, such as E-Bay.

We have been informed of an apparently targeted attack via a Google ad, trying to lure people looking for GIMP to a malicious download.
See reddit.com/r/GIMP/comments/ygb

The users are taken to a site that has copied the look of gimp.org, but the downloads are different.

The GIMP team does not make use of ads on Google or elsewhere.

This is the single greatest triumph of technology over itself, boost if you agree.

I thought it would be comfortable, but it's too comfortable! 😆 One hand to rule them all!

Another stupid thing is to expects fantasy Halloween decoration from Wallmart to be scientifically accurate rendering of real animals...

update::::::

You are receiving this email because you have an account on SourceHut.

We are preparing to publish updates to the SourceHut terms of service,
effective January 1st, 2023. This email summarizes the changes and the
rationale for each change, provides a diff between the old and new
terms, and gives you an opportunity to ask questions -- simply reply to
this email.

If you do not wish to agree to the new terms of service, you have until
January 1st to migrate to another provider. You can reply to this email
to request an export of your account data and/or the closure of your
account. SourceHut is free software: you can host it yourself or import
your data in another instance whose terms are more amenable to your
needs.

You can view a detailed diff of the changes here:

paste.sr.ht/~sircmpwn/b966c63c

A summarized version follows:

# Banning cryptocurrency-related projects

Projects related to cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies are no
longer permitted on SourceHut. For a detailed rationale, see this blog
post:

# Applicability of Dutch law

SourceHut has been incorporated in the Netherlands and we are in the
process of moving much of our business into the European Union. Users
are required to comply with Dutch laws in the course of their use of the
services. A future terms of service change will remove the reference to
US law after we finish the move and dissolve our US entity.

# "Threatening and harassing others"

We have expanded the list of prohibited behaviors to include
"threatening and harassing others". We already banned users for doing
this (we can terminate service for any reason), but after a few
incidents it was considered prudent to make it explicit. This clause
applies to content which is bigoted, racist, homophobic, transphobic,
etc.

# Revised content license

We have updated the terms for the content license you grant to SourceHut
when uploading content to the services. The purpose of this section of
the terms of service is to provide us with sufficient rights regarding
your content to operate our services, i.e. if you push some code to a
git repo you give us the right to display it on the git.sr.ht website.

The updates clarify the nuances regarding the ownership of the copyright
and interactions with free software licenses, which is important when
you upload content which is not owned or is only partially owned by you,
such as mirrors of free software projects or projects whose copyright is
held by many contributors.

We have also changed the "indefinite" license granted to SourceHut to
one which is terminated when you remove the content from the service.

The recent Twitter drama (yet again) restarted the "Fedi is insecure, admins can read DMs!!!1111111" flamewar. We Fedi people are now proudly reliving the golden age of the BBS. During the 1980s-1990s, this question was discussed to death on BBS sites...

#introduction

Hi all! 👋 I'm a PhD student at Johns Hopkins working on medical image processing, specifically super-resolution of MRI.

Super-res is an inverse problem and therefore we have to "make up" information. This is particularly dangerous in medical scenarios, so I'm working on understanding when (if ever!) machine learning-based super-res can safely be applied to MRI with signal processing foundations.

Looking forward to connecting with everyone!
