Dumb. Ikea should just license it and demand a cut of the profits because it is a funny take on the Ikea hell we have all experienced.

My "Getting Started on Mastodon" tip is to follow a ton of people.

Follow the people you followed on Twitter, sure, but especially follow new people you didn't know on Twitter. Follow people who follow you. Check out the local or federated timelines and pick random people to follow.

You can remove them later if you don't like their vibe or once you get a sense for how you want to use Mastodon, but in the meantime it's much more interesting to have a bunch of new posts whenever you come visit.

I wrote a nano tool that tries to extract the #Fediverse accounts of your #Twitter followings: https://fedifinder.glitch.me/

It searches for the patterns @user@host.tld, user@host.tld and host.tld/@user in the screen name, description, location and URL field. It displays them to you in the correct format for easy copying as well as a CSV download that can be imported to #Mastodon.

Known issue: Mail addresses are included as false positives because people write their handle without a leading @: name@host.tld

A Sunda Colugo (Galeopterus variegatus) spotted at Windsor Nature Park, Singapore, on 7 October 2022. It was on a tree next to the elevated walkway, so an easy photo opportunity; if you happen to spot it. 🙂

Colugos are gliding mammals (like Sugar Gliders) and native to the region.

Dear #TwitterMigration folks, an important tip on #privacy on the fediverse:

There is none.

This is a public medium; please treat it as such. Just as you have no privacy on Twitter (Elon Musk can read all your DMs), you have no privacy on the instance you’re on (your administrators can read all your posts).

You can set the visibility of a post but that’s a viewing suggestion, not a privacy guarantee.

Think of your posts as postcards, not sealed letters, and you should be fine.
