@NicLovesMetal I'm not an iPhone user so I can't vouch for any of them but here's a post detailing them https://transponderings.blog/2022/05/21/eight-mastodon-apps-for-iphone/?amp=1
Also when you login if it's asking for a username ensure you add the @mastadon.online but so it can find you
@NicLovesMetal there are a few different apps to test out. Are you on iPhone?

Ok, an #introduction then. Everything #metal #hardrock #festivals #metalcore I’m a self employed #PersonalTrainer and in #publishing as the day job. Pretty #kinky, definitely sweary and social media is my mind vomit.
@NicLovesMetal bit nerdy but this is the best guide I've found to doing stuff over here https://blog.djnavarro.net/posts/2022-11-03_what-i-know-about-mastodon/
But basically use hashtags a lot, boost(retweet) a lot and as a starting point write a quick into using the # introduction hash tag which will pick up a bunch of traction.
You might find that having a timeline you're in charge of eventually is a nice feeling. I find it quite refreshing 😄
@woodpunk so after all the complaining you did still switch! 😆
for now at least

Twitter is designed to agitate us.
Twitter is designed to get under our skin.
Twitter is designed to make us react.
Twitter is designed to make us want to return to "give them a piece of my mind."
Twitter is a drug that kills empathy and rewards cruelty and compels us to come back for more, even though we know that it is self-harm.
Which is entirely by design.
That is why Mastodon feels so chill.
You're not being manipulated.
@jackbarber https://blog.djnavarro.net/posts/2022-11-03_what-i-know-about-mastodon/ thats the best intro to how it works i've found to date. Also from a tech standpoint if you're interested in how it works check out https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube and https://pixelfed.org/ as other implementations of the ActivityPub protocol https://github.com/BasixKOR/awesome-activitypub

Every time someone from the Other Place pops up over here, it's like sitting in a country pub in a snowstorm and seeing someone you really like coming in through the door.
@freemo Does qoto collect donations for its upkeep? I don't see anything on the about page
