computer ownership discourse
@bonzoesc
We forced computers upon people who didn't actually want them, and then some people get upset when those people refuse to learn more than the bare minimum to do very specific things.
It was clear from the start that Massachusetts' latest right to
repair initiative would pass. Yet the manufacturers are crying that
they’ve been asleep at the wheel, and will need years to comply with this incredibly popular law.

@Gina I agree entierly. I love difference of opinon, thats how we grow and learn, even if we dont change our opinions.
Its really what I love about the Dutch to be honest and why I moved there. Most americans, particularly liberals but also non-liberals, will have a complete meltdown over a difference of opinion, even minor ones. Not only can you not be civil after that, they will actively be aggressive and seek it out, its horrible. The Dutch know how to disagree, even strongly disagree, and not make it personal unless it is really justified. Obviously if i was a legitimate hateful racist you'd probably judge me, and should.
@2ck @AnarchyGrandpa Of the people I know who voted for Trump, most thought both candidates were shit, but thought Biden was worse. Very often, disinformation about one or both candidates played a role.

i— wow. this is some bullshit, trying to justify surveillance capitalism. literally 0 closed-source, bigtech product has improved my productivity in any meaningful way. if anything, i’ve only found them to hamper my ability to get work done.
>ProtonMail yeah, that’s a you problem. don’t use shit services like ProtonMail; i have full text search in my email because i can download it via IMAP.
and re: that last bit about interoperability—um what? since when are data mining walled gardens INTEROPERABLE lmao. what are you even saying?!
terrible, terrible post.
The EU Council is pushing for encryption backdoors to messenger apps such as WhatsApp and Signal to fight terrorism (German article): https://fm4.orf.at/stories/3008930/
Despite the fact that errors of investigation in Austrian authorities had made the attack possible in the first place and not a lack of digital surveillance powers. Politicians must start to understand that more surveillance will not lead to more security. That's why we fight any attempt for an encryption backdoor: https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/why-a-backdoor-is-a-security-risk/
