@cypnk
Sure feels that way
Just came across about #Fedilab issue from Tom. It's really sad to hear, how the community react to developers who spent countless hours for making users life easier and in return they get that kind of insults and threats. Unacceptable and not appreciated at all.
I have my sincere wishes with Tom for whatever he undertake and hope he find something useful, where at least there is respect.
Thanks again for the great work.

@freemo Fair point. It's probably just a reaction to the Twitter bans.
@freemo I suspect it's either due to the Trump account suspension, or due to increased interest in decentralized software in general.
I'm banking on it being mostly the former

The Independent has an article on a portion of this. The individual in question is the same:

@valleyforge According to this, it was a movement within Amazon that was responsible:

Ijust finished uploading all of @pla ‘s photos to this pool so they won’t be lost with his instance. I also grabbed all of his blog posts and attached photos if anyone wants them (will have to send them directly). Photos from his Google profile that aren’t directly linked in any of his blog posts aren’t included.

The Fediverse won’t be the same without @pla ‘s unique combination of positivity, cycling content, and tech savvy. He was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met here and would always have something nice to say.
For those in the thread who haven’t seen yet, @hollma thinks this might be the news report, with this as the intersection where it happened (post).

@lupyuen Favorite quote: "Chromium was becoming the de facto web standard meaning that if we wanted web pages to not break, we’d have to fork Chromium."
If all those who admit defeat to de-facto monopolization of the web-as-is contributed to independent development or even just to a more modular usability of Gecko & friends, they could get out of that mess.
@valleyforge Ah. Fair enough.
@valleyforge Ah. Do you have evidence for this in the case of Parler?
@valleyforge
It's not anticompetitive, since Google doesn't have a social media platform other than Youtube. Apple has no social media to speak of.
@valleyforge As much as I agree that we need more control over our devices and freedom with app installation, mobile websites aren't *that* inferior to apps in this case and calling this censorship of Parler as a whole is disingenuous
@valleyforge
To be fair, it's just the app being delisted from the Google App store. They have a mobile site.
@NIckFury
The funny thing is Parler has a mobile site, and most of the people complaining about this don't seem to know a mobile site exists.
