I'm dismayed at some of the people on the #left throwing shade at #decentralization as "some #libertarian noise." Like, this is literally people #seizing the #means of mass communication, and these people are opting to side with the #profiteers because apparently it turns out the #proles are actually scary.
The ideal socialist condition would be independent communities self-governing and engaging in mutual aid. How the hell does #Twitter fit that model even *remotely* better than #Mastodon?

@s8n @stux @freemo @peterdrake @QOTO @trinsec Long story short: when I first signed up for Mastodon, I didn't know which instance would be best. I thus signed up for 3 of them: QOTO, linuxrocks.online, and mstdn.io. (Later I created a Pleroma, which I then migrated to blob.cat, but I hardly use it at the moment.) All of these are labeled with the same PFP, and all of them reference the other handles in their description (though I might need to update my QOTO description for this).
The linuxrocks account is mostly where I talk about Linux with some people I know. The mstdn.io would be mostly unused, but some people follow me there for some reason. My QOTO handle has evolved to be my main handle.

I see a lot of legitimate concerns and complaints about #Mastodon and the #Fediverse (on #Moderation , poor usability, missing features, etc). But perhaps a big reason for many people's difficulties is a gap in expectations and a deep unfamiliarity with non-hierarchical spaces:

So I recently noticed that I was able to see all recent toots from an account at octodon.social despite that service supposedly having suspended qoto on their end. Could someone explain this to me?

@carlysagan I haven't seen Starlink satellites on my end, but I'm probably not at the unlucky time of day/latitude where that stuff can be seen easily, and I'm also just doing naked eye observations.

I am again out in the middle of nowhere, trying to enjoy the stars - and the first thing you see are fucking Starlinks. Everywhere. It’s heartbreaking. It’s nauseating. I think I’m going to puke my thanksgiving. Thanks Elon.
Please, please do not buy Starlink. There are plenty of other internet options.

stux is a friend of mine, weve had beers, i help him with his servers when i can... He has not made a comment on this either way. I have no intention to push him to make a comment either. If he feels so compelled.. if he wants to save his ass I understand that too.

I knopw of very fewe servers of any size that has defederated from us.. popular opinon as can be seen from the recent thread on fedithings is overwhelmingly in our favor.. every response on fedithings post last i checked without no exception was in our favor. or at least no expections i noticed.

I suspect that the larger servers are not going to actually block Qoto, as this seems to be mostly an issue with smaller more cliquish instances. Gargron himself is (misguidedly) trying not to rock the boat by upsetting these smaller instances' owners, much like a narcissist's family misguidedly tries not to upset the narcissist among them.
If push comes to shove, there's also always the alternative of creating an account at another instance but using your original handle as your main. I've been doing this for years, with my QOTO handle being my main account and there also being 3 less used accounts that I keep around for various purposes.
