@ApNudd From what little I've seen TikTok pseudoarcheology has left the land of mere conspiracy theories set in our world and entered the realm of much or even all of history itself being an elaborate hoax. In some cases it's past the point at which recognizable history even can be said to exist
For instance, there's a person on TikTok named "momlennial" who claims the Roman Empire, the Roman culture, and even Latin was fabricated by Catholic monks and Victorian scholars. She blocks anyone who criticizes her and uses vicious ad-hominems to smear critics on other platforms.
There's also a flat-earth-related conspiracy theory called the mudflood conspiracy theory. This claims that all of history is fabricated, and that prior to a great catastrophe involving everything getting covered in feet upon feet of mud, the world was dominated by an empire based in East Asia and called "Tartaria". Old buildings are said to be from that period, which spanned an unknown, possibly vast time, and the decorations on the buildings (vanes, spires, even the shapes of stained glass windows) are said to have been used to "draw endless free clean power from the ether".
In short, there are large parts of TikTok that are best described as insane. Fanciful nonsense and incoherent ramblings are taken as genuine insights by the people there. Those parts are way worse than any other platform I've seen in that respect except maybe similar parts of Telegram.
Leaving twitter; harassment of public health officials
Today was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
This morning Elon Musk tweeted that his pronouns were prosecute/Fauci.
You can’t study evolutionary biology under the roof of the Discovery Institute and you can’t have meaningful and productive scientific collaboration on a platform run by right-wing troll who denies science when its results are inconvenient to him and just simply to hear his audience cheer.

It's so nice being on a platform that isn't riddled with bizarre history conspiracy theories. It's all "babylonian giants" on Instagram and "The Inca and Babylonians were trading gold" on Facebook 😑
@ApNudd Don't get me started on what I've heard about on TikTok
@mmasnick @bethanye It may just be me, but I suspect the fact that Musk updated the *app* but not the website indicates that:
1. Twitter is in such disarray that they can't maintain a consistent feature set across both their website and their app, and
2. Musk is more interested in the app than the website itself, which says a lot about his understanding of both apps and the web as a whole.

@tokyo_0 @mattblaze I think he's (somewhat facetiously) saying that you are part of *that person's* problem.
@douglasvb @ai6yr Ayup. Very very tragic, very very preventable.
Mention of death of a child, rabies
Another case of a child dying of rabies because of not getting treatment after exposure to a bat. I mention this as a problem in my Wilderness First Aid classes with some prior examples :-(

@EeeeWooo Also, get well soon and may you recover without any lasting effects.
@EeeeWooo I have been very very lucky to not have gotten COVID so far, and I attribute that to my own caution and that of those I live with.
Not only am I wearing a mask, but I am probably not going to be joining any crowds between now and when I have to go back to school. (Good thing my social life was mostly online and Discord based even pre-pandemic.)
I wrote some very early thoughts I'm having about governments on the Fediverse, and how it can leverage it for public emergencies and service updates. I'm curious to the potential and would welcome a discussion. There could be some real opportunity, but only if people care.
I was cheeky and wrote it in on a closed platform because font is king.
