Twitter isn't even a *publishing* platform, not even in the way WordPress is.

Anyone can install and self-host WordPress.

No one, except Elon Musk, can install and self-host Twitter.

Twitter is just a publisher.

@ariadne a lot of admins overly use suspensions when they should be using silences... And the lack of transparency in this stuff is why I've generally been questioning whether it would be better to start my own tiny instance just for myself to avoid this bullshit entirely

Looks like the Muskrat is scared of the social media Elephant in the room. He's suspending or shadowbanning accounts that are posting links or even mentioning the Elephant place on Turdsite. LOL Guess getting booed off stage really set him off.

Experimented with reach on Twitter vs Mastodon by sending the same “canary” post on both platforms. I saw about the same engagement on both, despite having 4% the followers here.

Feels like the value of Twitter’s network is overestimated. If you’ve been there 10+ years, I bet most of your followers are inactive, and it’s harder than ever to get your tweets viewed because of the algorithmic timeline. Mastodon might be at the point where it delivers the same value. At least in my circles.

@joshuatopolsky It’s not just links to Mastodon. It happened to me just using the word mastodon in another context. My link was actually to a story about mastodon DNA being sequenced at the MIT Technology Review

The next front for #mastodon to reach out to is social media management platforms like HootSuite and SproutSocial and even Meltwater.

Need to get seamlessly into the tools that social media managers use to post across platforms.

Anyone seen such adoption beginning in any mainstream social tools?
