Watching the Jan 6th committee hearings now. The committee is expected to recommend charges against Trump. Let's hope this is finally enough for the DOJ to arrest that bastard.

@jpanzer Also, if I am being too harsh on him, let me know. There's always a possibility I misread things, and I like to err on the side of having an error bar when I am uncertain.

@jpanzer Thanks for the clarification.
So he's basically a glorified cross between a LARPer and an influencer, except even more shallow than the latter?

@jpanzer I have heard this name come up in conversation ever since Musk took over Twitter and I still have no idea who dril is or why he is so prominent.
Can someone explain it to me?

*golf clap* heckuva job Elon. Vox populi, vox dei!

“No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor.” -- Musk

So Jason Calacanis wants the job but Elon (correctly) notes he can't do it. Some other people could do it, but aren't interested. Maybe Elon really will hand it over to twitter.com/dril!

@Deji @ArmyGirl To be fair, Jack started but does not own BlueSky. Then again, I have heard a good case that Bluesky will likely never launch; even if it does, it will likely have a *lot* of catching up to do with the Fediverse.

@Hyolobrika @StevenBeschloss No, and to be fair the government is probably taking its time building a good, solid, convincing, and complete case against Trump. We shall see what happens in the coming months anyway.

The point is that there is a line between due process and needless dithering. If and when the government crosses that line is it when things are an issue in this respect.

If you let any story cut through all the Twitter noise today, please let it be this:

At least six local news websites across Alabama and Florida have been secretly taking payments from power companies to run stories attacking clean energy + other policies

Michelson and Morley knew what they were looking for and how to measure it; it just wasn’t there. But faced with this null result, which Michelson and Morley continued to refine, physicists still clung to the idea of an aether. How else could you have waves?

Here is a page from "Lessons in Physics," a textbook written by Lothrop Higgins in 1903 – over 15 years after the Michelson-Morley experiment! – that presents the aether as a matter-of-fact.

For anyone wondering, I'm still unable to access Twitter until I delete this tweet, which is factual journalism that doesn't even break the location rule Twitter enacted a few days ago. The account isn't marked as suspended anymore, but I can't use it or see tweets from people I follow. Using Mastodon exclusively for now and actually really enjoying it.

You know the academic publishing model is fucked up when you use #SciHub to access your own paper. @academicchatter #academia #openaccess

We all need to get very sharp on the fact that the internet, very much and especially social media, is not just a play space.

It *is* real life.

For a lot of homebound folks in disabled community, it's the ONLY place they're able to exist in sustained, supportive community.

And with this pandemic, a lot more disabled and vulnerable folks are trapped and isolated.

@Twizznit Yeah, I've been doing that. But after thinking about it for a long time what I really miss about quote boost is the feeling of collaboration. Of making a mash-up. Combining my ideas with art, or seeing someone give the perfect line to make one of my drawing into a hilarious meme.

By making posts these isolated articles that are more difficult to contextualize it's hard to create something NEW that is better than either post would be on it's own.

There are a lot of terrible #Section230 takes, but this one is magnificently stupid: https://cointelegraph.com/news/a-supreme-court-case-could-kill...

@LouisIngenthron @Romaq @freemo I mean, it probably didn't help even *if* preexisting conditions were involved.
