@tchambers quite interesting, although in my recent browsing of Twitter to campaign for Mastodon I've met quite a few people that had accounts, but didn't advertise it in their bio or nick, so I wonder how underestimated the numbers are.
I came out of #retirement as a general #pediatrician 2 weeks ago on a part-time basis to help my former partners deal with the overwhelming influx of sick kids.
In my 30 years of practice I have never seen it so bad this early in the #respiratory season. Lots of #influenza, #RSV, #COVID being spread around.
@luvadeforno Taibbi has spent the last few years totally misunderstanding how social media works, and buying into ridiculously stupid tropes that his buddy Glenn Greenwald has been tossing around.
Matt's brain has gone to mush. Tonight's thread just put an exclamation point on the corpse of his reputation.
How would #AI convince the world to push through the #TwitterMigration to migrate from #Twitter to #Mastodon? I sense slight sarcasm in its sign-off.
That was the most anticlimactic “leak” I’ve ever seen, in terms of both content and delivery. Some people trying to make a hard call, discussing it calmly and professionally. Some flagging of tweets with nonconsensual nudes. Some politicians presenting principled arguments against what was, ultimately, a bad call.
We were promised popcorn…
Insight into the #TwitterMigration using bios, DLs, accounts, DAUs, etc. Mainly to #Mastodon, #Tumblr [really?!}, #Post, #Discord.

Wow it turns out that Elon Musk owning twitter and allowing all the nazis and shitheads back on has... driven a huge rise in hate speech! Couldn't have seen this one coming. https://www.theverge.com/2022/12/2/23489808/elon-musk-twitter-hate-speech-increase-content-moderation
@Jelaniya my friend was the director of security and integrity at Twitter before he got unceremoniously fired. Along with about 10 other mates of mine. So this does not surprise me one bit.
#ClimateScam: denialism claims flooding Twitter have scientists worried
there was a “renewed energy” coursing through the effort to spread baseless claims about the climate crisis on Twitter, particularly by high-profile accounts that fold the issue into other major clashes, such as over abortion or LGBTQ+ rights.
I've been over on the other site reviewing the "big reveal" that Musk promised tonight, and... if you're not reading it, suffice to say, you've missed nothing.
The revelations so far... confirmed everything Twitter has said earlier, denied that there was any gov't pressure to remove the laptop story, highlighted the challenges of content moderation... and involved Matt Taibbi stupidly revealing personal email addresses of famous people.
Back in 2013 when it looked like Steve Cohen (a hedge fund guy worth ~$8b) might actually suffer consequences for insider trading, I asked one of his peers why he'd do it.
I couldn't understand it. I said it would be a blow to my ego to cheat, a tacit admission to myself that I could no longer beat the street honestly.
My friend replied, "Maybe it got too easy to beat the street. Maybe the bigger challenge was seeing if he could beat the SEC."
I think about that a lot.
