Oh, look at this. The Trump Organization was found guilty of tax fraud.
However, Donald Trump was not charged. https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/trump-organization-verdict-taxes-1.6676368
@left_adjoint @nytpu Dang, you put it way more bluntly than I was willing to! 😂
@nytpu On the plus side, DOIs are very useful for people who wish to find said paywalled articles at certain sites elsewhere...specifically certain ones best summarized by a certain black flag with a certain white image.
@AdamParkhomenko Why am I not remotely surprised?
@drskyskull I have heard of CSAM being present on Twitter and of it being an issue that the site was actively trying to deal with, but I too have a *very* hard time believing anecdotes that the situation has improved in any way under Musk.
We aren't imagining it. https://gizmodo.com/twitter-down-notifications-breaking-elon-musk-layoffs-1849856992
so, planning on spinning up an instance for small businesses in Aotearoa New Zealand.
It'll be paid, like Cloud Island, and use the Cloud Island tech stack, and use a subscribed blocklist.
I'll be admin and moderator of this instance.
Are you/your company interested in being on this instance? DM me if you are, or email me at aurynn@eiara.nz.
Boosting this would be helpful.

The chairman of the Jan. 6th Committee just announced that the Committee *will* make criminal referrals to the DOJ containing evidence that specific people, “possibly including former President Donald Trump,” committed federal crimes in trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Twitter is NOT the public square.
It literally exists on a server farm owned by Elon.
If he wants, he can literally pull the plug on Twitter.
No one should base their online life on that thing. Or anything owned by Meta, for that matter.
I've said this previously in a reply, but it deserves its own thread 🧵
In just two days, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a case that has the potential to upend American democracy by giving unprecedented power to state legislatures.
If you care about democracy, you need to pay attention to Moore v. Harper.

@gme Yes. It would. Those of us who spend our time working on these issues DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR RESOURCES to fight this in court, but will need to anyway, leaving other shit to fall through the cracks.
And the idea that there will be a prelim injunction is... not definite.
🚨NEW: Texas Secretary of State John Scott (R) announces that he is resigning at the end of the year. Involved in efforts to overturn the 2020 election, Scott would have faced confirmation by the Texas Senate next year to continue in the post.

So it appears that Congress may have decided to include the incredibly dangerous JCPA in the must pass NDAA today. The JCPA is effectively a "link tax" that will force internet companies to pay cash to private equity firms who are buying up newspapers and firing most of the staff.
It's a horrible bill for so many reasons. Even the Copyright Office says it's not useful or needed.
@michaelcoyote calling senators/reps and telling them this is a bad idea...
