Seriously. Respect for people like Fauci holy shit
I would have said "fuuuuuck youuu" a looong time ago if people are so nasty against you while you try to help them
It's a shame people like Elon can say stupid (attacking) things and don't bare any consequences
Dr Fauci reply to bully Elon:
He understands #Twitter! 😮

Musk has at this point shown that he has zero interest in preventing real harm coming to real people and zero hesitation to cause it himself to anyone who doesn't speak or act in a way that serves his interests.
Whether he's doing it to "rile up the left", or for engagement, or out of vindictiveness isn't as relevant as the damage he's in a position to cause, which is especially concerning given how he continues to target marginalised people.

There's a new groups system for the Fediverse called chirp.social. More info at:
You can join a group by following the group account. You can post to the group by @-ing the group account, which then reposts that to all its other followers
It is similar to the existing https://a.gup.pe system, but chirp.social allows a group manager to delete posts and ban people from the group.
It works on all Fediverse platforms including Mastodon.
Twitter; abuse
Shout out to the pro-science folks here and on twitter who admonished me for leaving and told me (1) I was letting down the cause and (2) by leaving I was playing politics instead of doing science.
No. A bully runs that house, and I'm walking out the door. You have no right to tell anyone to stay with an abuser and put up with threats to their own safety.
Unless you've weathered three years of death threats for your public health advocacy, keep it to yourself.
Kevin McCarthy privately called for Twitter to ban certain Republicans—now he claims outrage that Twitter banned certain Republicans.
Donald Trump had the chance to do a prisoner swap for Paul Whelan—now he claims outrage that Biden didn't swap for Whelan.
The GOP voted unanimously to cut taxes for billionaires—now they claim outrage that the deficit has grown just as they knew it would.
The GOP has no values. They are power hungry extremists. Please get active, get organized, & vote them out
Elon Musk just tweeted the phrase "Branch Covidians" unironically.
The world's (now second) richest man cynically using COVID denial to promote his agenda.
This has been the standard throughout the pandemic. Capital interests have used COVID minimization/denialism to tamp down demands for worker protections and government interventions that are seen as a threat to bottom lines.
@cordeliane @countrymarxist @Popehat I know of several lists:
https://instances.social/ is a very general directory. Some of the servers are good, others are ... not. Do your research here before going further.
https://mastodonservers.net/servers is one I found recently. It's a good list from what I can tell; not too restrictive, not so broad as to include really bad instances.
https://fediverse.party/ is more general than Mastodon, involving other (often more featureful) instances than most you will find on Mastodon. The downside is that it relies on a *very* slow site for listing the servers themselves. On the plus side, there is a curated list (https://fediverse.party/en/portal/servers/) of servers by theme.
If you want to know who administers each server, simply look at the about page on the server itself. This page also generally gives a lot of info, including rules, federation between servers, and other important details.
Regarding choosing a server: while you should shy away from red flags for under-moderated servers, it's also possible to find yourself on an instance that is excessive or heavy-handed in moderation. One sign of this that is not as obvious as others (such as rules lists being draconian) is if the server refuses to list who it federates with (merely forgetting to list is common, but if a server says it *won't* list who it federates with for a specific, that's a bad sign).
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me for advice! I'm happy to give advice on whether a server passes my smell test, and why or why not.
@cordeliane @countrymarxist @Popehat He is very nice from what I have seen following him.
My instance is also nice, but it's also been subject to quite a bit of Fediverse drama originating from before the current surge of new users that is rather complicated to explain. I still like it though; it's a nice community with nice people and an excellent administrator (freemo) and mod team, and there are some really nice features here that are hard to find elsewhere.

I am impressed by this.

It’s awful that it took a war for the US to wake up to the threat of the Russian oligarchy, but this interview with Andrew Adams, the head of DOJ’s KleptoCapture is SPOT. ON.

I'm Gregory Penn. I created magpie.masto.host for friends and family, and their friends and families, to connect without the privacy problems of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. I hope this can be a place for personal connections, so most of what I post here is only for people following me, and I individually approve new followers. I post more publicly from qoto.org.
It appears that the Mastodon migration is having a noticeable effect. Elmo's Twitter is now putting all tweets that contain links to Mastodon servers behind "sensitive content" warnings. I guess mentioning the competition doesn't meet Elmo's criteria for "free speech".

Probably also worth noting:
My dear twitter refugees,
As you are grieving the communities you are leaving behind, please remember Musk bought a platform, not a community.
YOU built the communities, and you will build them again.
