Reminder: if you're older than 33, you're also older than credit scores in the US.

The biennial Living Planet report is out. Cites near 70% loss of all wildlife on this planet since 1970. Two years ago the estimate was at 68%, four years ago, it was 60%.

"Many scientists believe we are living through the sixth mass extinction – the largest loss of life on Earth since the time of the dinosaurs – and that it is being driven by humans."

Primary driver is habitat loss due to agriculture, the vast majority of it animal agriculture and livestock feedcrops.

Also there's the Texas anti-moderation bill that is a serious threat to all large social media sites.

Making moderation illegal is absolutely insane to anyone who understands what kinds of nightmares gets vomited up in to the moderation queues.

I feel like I could write a review of this terrible article here. I also feel like it would be pointless, as it's abundantly clear to pretty much anyone that the author crafted this with a shoehorn rather than a camera.

Galadriel is the warmongering US and Sauron is the vaguely defined external threat...what editor looked at this and thought this was a piece worthy of publication? And what was Dr. Bessner smoking when he wrote this?

So I have noticed there has been a considerable uptick in new accounts as of late on the Fediverse.
Anyone aware why this is?

Many people ask, "Can you sell free software?" The answer is "Yes, the GPL allows everyone to do this. The right to sell copies is part of the definition of free software." Read the full answer at u.fsf.org/3kq #GNUGPLFAQ

@selea I've always loved how companies block smaller email domains like Tutanota and others for "spam", yet Gmail has more spam than all of them combined, and rarely puts any actual effort other than automation to solving it.

Unlikely that she personally contributed to the plan. Totally consistent with the wider #DraconianCrackdown since proof of age=proof of identity=no more anonymity online.

How can we make the world a better place?

UK Prime minister hopeful Liz Truss has a plan: we break up the internet — into TWO internets.

My thoughts on the matter: if you want to be an anti-racist or anti-fascist, call out those people who promote Christian nationalism, support overthrowing the government of the US, or call themselves "race realists".

*Don't* go after someone doing bona fide peer-reviewed academic research that you haven't bothered to read, let alone understand, based on tenuous assumptions you drew from a *single* edgy drawing they drew as teenagers 13 years ago.

So apparently a paleoartist and scientist on Twitter is being accused of being a Nazi because of two things:
1. She is a behavioral geneticist.
2. She drew a picture of velociraptors playing chess in Nazi uniforms 13 years ago as a teenager.

Next person who lectures me about comparing monkey pox to COVID gets a block because:

1. I never compared monkey pox to COVID
2. Besides COVID, other illnesses can be a pandemic
3. Just because a vaccine exists doesn't mean everyone will take it, thereby preventing a pandemic

We already have 24,000 cases of monkey pox around the globe—all I'm saying is take it seriously.

@atomicpoet In his autobiography Julian Cope talks about being on Top Of The Pops while also being on the dole. The label is paying for the tour and taking the money, he's not even making enough to sign off the labour list.

Wild success as a musician can get you money and groupies but moderate success won't and most musicians don't even get that.

Show business is all facade.
