There is an effort underway to reframe work that attempts to address harmful disinformation — even work specifically aimed at mitigating malign foreign disinformation — as "censorship". If we accept that frame, we will enable the dismantling of the very nascent defenses that we've built over the past ~6 years, as our society has begun to realize the vulnerabilities that emerge from the intersection of technology, human behavior, and influence operations.

Well, one thing is clear: Mastodon is as effective at obliterating my productivity as Twitter ever was.

(But I don't feel anywhere close as dirty and shame-filled)

Other methods will be variously less than ethical.

@tchambers quite interesting, although in my recent browsing of Twitter to campaign for Mastodon I've met quite a few people that had accounts, but didn't advertise it in their bio or nick, so I wonder how underestimated the numbers are.

I came out of #retirement as a general #pediatrician 2 weeks ago on a part-time basis to help my former partners deal with the overwhelming influx of sick kids.

In my 30 years of practice I have never seen it so bad this early in the #respiratory season. Lots of #influenza, #RSV, #COVID being spread around.

Like, financially Twitter is a disaster and pretty much doomed, but it can still do a ton of damage on the way out.

Keep bringing folks over, especially the Current Events Discourse folks, over here where they'll be occupied with actually-newsworthy things and funnel those into mainstream.

How would #AI convince the world to push through the #TwitterMigration to migrate from #Twitter to #Mastodon? I sense slight sarcasm in its sign-off.

That was the most anticlimactic “leak” I’ve ever seen, in terms of both content and delivery. Some people trying to make a hard call, discussing it calmly and professionally. Some flagging of tweets with nonconsensual nudes. Some politicians presenting principled arguments against what was, ultimately, a bad call.
