Having tracked Fuentes for years, let me note this as a reporter: he is well-known inside the GOP. People can pretend otherwise but professionals who work in the party are highly aware of how his white supremacy and anti-Semitism influences some voters, esp on fringe platforms.

Boost this toot if you're planning on sticking around Mastodon whether or not it becomes more popular than the birdsite.

Behold the tiniest bird in existence! The zunzuncito! Also known as a bee hummingbird or a Helena hummingbird.

Jesus Fuckbuttering Christ Mastodon users.

The amount of dipshit reply guys to someone saying they're experiencing harassment/abuse shouldn't be:

"You should find a better instance"
"You can mute, block and fediblock them"
"You're being difficult"
"You should read all the block lists for other instances and follow those"
"You should use different hashtags"
"I haven't experienced any harassment or problems and I've been here for years"
"You should create filters and a central list so everyone can find it"
"Don't complain unless you're willing to solve the problem"

Those are a few of the replies I've received, in addition to being told:

"You should be shot in the uterus"
"You should be more careful"
"You should unalive yourself"
"You should be killed"
"You're a whore"

There's a few more vile things to add to that list, but you get the idea.

My point is this, content moderation and centralized reporting is something that should be considered.

I understand it won't stop all the harassment, but it might give a better way of tracking the problems.

I am not/not volunteering to spearhead it because I already handle enough of this shit in my personal and business life.

I don't have the spoons, or fucks left.

the fact is Jewish people are a tiny minority in the US and don't really have the numbers or sway to stop antisemitic hate from being normalized.

On November 25, at the urging of a far-right troll, Elon Musk banned the @CrimethInc Twitter account.

Musk’s goal in acquiring Twitter had nothing to do with “free speech”—it was a partisan move to silence opposition, paving the way for fascist violence. crimethinc.com/2022/11/25/elon

With Twitter's collapse, funders should start helping build up federated discourse: supporting development of better security, of moderation aids, of proposals for affordances welcoming to Black Twitter and other communities. Stop thinking top down. Start thinking emergent.

What a cringe-fest!

Elon Musk trying so hard to hurl insulting zingers at Mastodon. But he just comes across as incredibly awkward and dorky.

He also fails at one of the first rules of PR: don't acknowledge the little guy lest you turn them into the big guy.

At the turn of the (20th) century newspapers were the social media platforms of the day.

At the turn of the 21st century newspapers ceded that role, and their futures, to big-tech and the portals and silo-social networks.

The move to the fediverse gives modern news orgs a once in a generation opportunity to take that back.

Follow the lead of @TexasObserver and other news orgs that are launching their own instances for their staff/reporters and their audiences.

How to proceed?
I would block the , but I think a better action might be to it to the remote server.. Just, I only have a report to this server option, and then forward to the remote one...
Any way to just report to the remote? Or am I supposed to report in my one anyway/no-report-at-all?

This piece is a couple of weeks old, but I think it’s important to pay attention to.

In Republican-controlled states where they can get away with it, the urban areas are split up through gerrymandering to basically disenfranchise the city dwellers. Nashville is a prime example.

You’re talking about one of the largest metro areas of the country and because of gerrymandering, its congressional representation is gone. It’s not democracy.

He's the richest man only because Telsa is a memestock.

Once people realize Tesla's value is high for the same basic reason FTX's was*, it'll normalize down to something a lot smaller.

* people put money in, and number go up; and because number go up, more people put more money in. All while paying lots of attention to the brand and the memes but without paying much attention to the fundamentals of the business

Overconsumption is a big issue already globally and 'world events' like Black Friday doesn't help a bit.. :blobcatscared:

Fashion influencers are getting more crazy than ever, online ordering and payments can be done with a single click / tab on the screen all for the goal of selling more and more.

I'm not gonna participate in this madness and I hope you also won't or at least buy something locally to support the small stores instead of Bezos with :amazon: for example..

@wchr So, what then? Does everybody just switch to LibreOffice on Linux machines? I assume the same holds for Google as well (by all logic, it should). Can people even use Windows anymore given the amount of telemtry data that's sent?

Does the DSK outline alternatives, or is everyone just under an obligation to figure it out?

How will enforcement work out -- that's ... basically every German company, organisation, volunteer organisation, school...

The massive Twitter data breach is real. Here is a small offer of proof. There is data from entire countries in the data set.

Now Musk is saying if Apple and Google block Twitter on their app stores, presumably for failure to moderate hate speech and for safety, he will just create a new phone.

So it’s going well, right?
