TIL Hive and Post don't have public web interfaces? C'mon folks, why are you even considering them. Twitter was a website. That was a big part of the point. https://mastodon.social/@jwz/109417952642149234
#hacking pro tip:
Placing a blanket on your lap will summon the cats.
This requires removing the laptop from your lap, moving the infinite stack of papers, and placing the laptop on your desk.
You will be rewarded for your efforts with a friend to hack with.
⚠️ Warning: The above technique may lead to chewed cables
Pardon me while I make a straight-forward legal post to try to lure some of the hangers-on over here from the other place. :ablobcatmeltwave_rev:
Fourteen new follow-on cases in the ten-years-running Cellular Telephone litigation cases were filed today and assigned to Vice Chancellor Laster.
The new cases allegedly arise from, or relate to, post-trial findings made by VCL in the original set of cases.

Folks have mentioned that Twitter is an extremely important space for sharing #protest news across the world and as a result we should keep preserving it despite the takeover.
I get it, I am #Iranian, I have relied heavily on twitter for news sharing re protests in #Iran over the years.
But what you are missing is that those same activists and protesters are MOST vulnerable to the new Twitter regime. Misinformation campaigns will be easy, and #Putin/#China/Islamic republic will use it.
@mmasnick Some people seem to be willing to go to any lengths to not have to admit that the rich are just as capable of being incompetent jackasses as the rest of us.

Turns out http://post.news is backed by a16z. Lets see if they do it like Clubhouse and make the suggested follow list almost solely a16z partners and a smattering of anti media reactionaries https://twitter.com/jayrosen_nyu/status/1596606967195533312

In the mids of the Twitter chaos, please know this. The company that built Qatar’s World Cup stadium built China’s #Uyghur prison camps. There go your corporate values. Too often, companies tout their values when they serve their interests. But they can’t hold the same values when it involves authoritarian govs.
‘Is America’s infatuation with billionaires finally coming to an end?’ Let’s hope so. And hopefully we’ll stop worshipping rich people as well.

They could not successfully sow doubt in our democracy without first dismantling our education system. In that regard their efforts the past three decades have been successful.
We must fight on multiple fronts if we are to be successful long term. Get involved in your local school boards, it affects you whether you have kids in school or not.

Unfortunately I have to stop actively working on #Metatext for a while due to health issues. I really wish I could implement Mastodon 4 features and squash every bug, but it's not possible for me to do so right now.
I know the app has become important to a lot people, so I'm open to a new maintainer who can carry on its values of privacy and accessibility taking it over if there's interest and a fit. Email info@metabolist.org if you (or your organization) are interested
Having now been on #Mastodon for 1 month, a few observations:
- Mastodon makes me realize how much the #Twitter algorithm maximized user outrage to boost engagement for profit. Gross. Here, my feed is interesting & supportive.
- There's a culture of kindness - at least so far. It's extremely appealing & should be normalized on & offline.
- Beyond reactions to toots, people share songs, poetry & ask great questions. I can't remember the last time I found social media to be fun.
For totally legit reasons, I was sifting through Twitter's front-end code earlier today and noticed this new payment handler named "TwitterBluePaymentFailureFix". The bundle itself has code that deals with Twitter Blue payments through Apple and Google App stores.
I'm not saying it's definitely related, but I wouldn't be suprised if that's why the Birdman is ranting about Apple's 30% fee on in-app purchases.
