This is a great way to potentially remind yourself why you follow particular accounts (or just about any other reason you can think of).

Also, these notes are private. The account does not know what you have written down, nor the fact that you have even made these notes.

I think it's important to spell out exactly what's happening with Twitter layoffs because there's so much euphemism in US press when it comes to actions of the rich that it's easy to miss.
1. Musk couldn't afford Twitter so he took out $13bln in loans
2. When you're rich, you can "buy" a business with loans and the make the business pay back your loan for you
3. Twitter now has $1bln/year in new expenses paying those loans
4. Musk is taking people's salaries and using them to pay off his loan

If the most successful people in your system are the worst of humanity, your system is fundamentally broken.

Musk has at this point shown that he has zero interest in preventing real harm coming to real people and zero hesitation to cause it himself to anyone who doesn't speak or act in a way that serves his interests.

Whether he's doing it to "rile up the left", or for engagement, or out of vindictiveness isn't as relevant as the damage he's in a position to cause, which is especially concerning given how he continues to target marginalised people.

There's a new groups system for the Fediverse called chirp.social. More info at:

You can join a group by following the group account. You can post to the group by @-ing the group account, which then reposts that to all its other followers

It is similar to the existing https://a.gup.pe system, but chirp.social allows a group manager to delete posts and ban people from the group.

It works on all Fediverse platforms including Mastodon.

It appears that the Mastodon migration is having a noticeable effect. Elmo's Twitter is now putting all tweets that contain links to Mastodon servers behind "sensitive content" warnings. I guess mentioning the competition doesn't meet Elmo's criteria for "free speech".
