We all need to get very sharp on the fact that the internet, very much and especially social media, is not just a play space.

It *is* real life.

For a lot of homebound folks in disabled community, it's the ONLY place they're able to exist in sustained, supportive community.

And with this pandemic, a lot more disabled and vulnerable folks are trapped and isolated.

@Twizznit Yeah, I've been doing that. But after thinking about it for a long time what I really miss about quote boost is the feeling of collaboration. Of making a mash-up. Combining my ideas with art, or seeing someone give the perfect line to make one of my drawing into a hilarious meme.

By making posts these isolated articles that are more difficult to contextualize it's hard to create something NEW that is better than either post would be on it's own.

@david while a bunch of the listed domains are known bad instances the list also includes fedi.absturztau.be which is typically blocked for the reason of "having a German name". There was a bit of a mess over people assuming anything with a German name is Nazi related rather than just, you know. German.

Absturztaube means 'Crash Pigeon' and it's a play on a punk band name - nothing to do with fascists.

There are other, more grounded metrics to determine if something is worth blocking. "Lots of people think so" shouldn't be considered as one of them.

Also, note that my reply is not about qoto.org - this response is specifically about using that list as a blocklist or reference.

Since Twitter is becoming increasingly hostile towards those that just want to share information about Russia’s war against Ukraine, I am finally going to begin the process of moving here and setting up shop In hopes of making it my primary platform for publishing.
It’s difficult enough living and working in a war zone. The arbitrary rules imposed on my Twitter posts unnecessarily add to that difficulty at a time when I no longer have the time and mental bandwidth to deal with it. My Twitter account will remain active, however I will not censor or remove innocuous content that has retroactively been deemed in violation of their arbitrary TOS changes. If it is suspended, so be it. I will not advocate for its restoration.
But enough about that nonsense. Let’s move forward.

If Musk "steps down" as Twitter CEO, per his latest bogus "poll", some things to remember:

1) He'll still be the owner, and the owner makes the rules the CEO carries out.

2) He lies incessantly. Nothing he says can be trusted, ever.

3) Big Journalism will breathlessly cover the charade as if it meant something, and will continue to support a man who loathes honest reporting and has contempt for genuine freedom of expression.

Have the impression that Elon actually wants an excuse to quit as CEO. Depends a lot on who he appoints as his replacement; maybe he's just completed the content moderation speedrun, @mmasnick style

My personal guess though: I think he's gotten tired of being in charge of a dumpster fire, having constant demands, complaints, and critics for every decision he's personally made, while the company is hemorrhaging money. Maybe he'll appoint Catturd and LibsOfTikTok as joint CEOs, maybe it'll be Jason Calcacanis and David Sacks. But either way, he gets to fob off responsibility before the likely bankruptcy of Twitter so that Elon was failed, he didn't fail himself.

This isn’t said often enough: Vladimir Putin is a murderous thug whose genocidal war against Ukrainians should lead to his prosecution and conviction for war crimes. That this will not happen anytime soon and likely ever is intolerable.

Musk is burning it all down, including friendships.

3. If you can't start your own instances, join a non-profit or co-op instance
4. If you can't join a non-profit or co-op instance, support small businesses that are building the Fediverse
5. Resist the likes of Google or Apple from extending their tech monopolies into the Fediverse
