If you’re new to Mastodon, you may at some point find that you’re being pressured to put your posts behind a content warning (CW). Although CWs make sense for things like images of violence or nudity, some people are bullying others to put CWs on discussions of politics, racism, etc.
Please know that you should not feel pressured to obey these individuals. They do not speak for all. If someone does not want to be exposed to these topics, Mastodon gives them all the tools they need to avoid them, such as keyword filters and the ability to block or mute people who are posting things they don’t like.

According to fediverse.observer/stats we are currently at ~6.4M-7M users.

So, if Matt Mulenwig does actually get his engineers to add #ActivityPub support to #Tumblr, the whole #FediVerse and #Mastodon could be in for a massive culture shock.... The best stats I can find (financesonline.com/number-of-t) Suggest there were 29.4M users of Tumblr in 2020 with ~%8 annual growth rate, or nearly 35M users in 2022.

That would make the Fediverse jump to ~42M users.

GULP.

We need writers! And we need them to.. (can you guess?) write articles! The North West is a large area where a lot happens, we need people to write about that and let us publish their articles.
Just put pen to paper, let the words flow. Our editors can do the rest.

Ok, I need some further education and thinking on notices. I realize that we all have different perspectives, and I don't have to worry about them on qoto.org instance, but I have others who are following from other places and I want to be sensitive to that.

So, what topics must include CWs from your perspective?

My list so far as an education professional is anything not appropriate or professional for a work environment, especially but not limited to:

*Not Safe for Work Content like nudity, body parts, blood and guts
* Politics like Trump, power struggles between various groups (including systemic racism)
* Religious arguments
* Personal attacks

What else?

A guide to some common #ContentWarnings (CWs), including abbreviations...

Please don't use "NSFW" to describe sexually explicit content—be specific! #mastotip

- alc: alcohol
- body horror: gross body stuff
- ed: eating disorder
- ec: eye contact (for images)
- food: self explanatory
- genitals, nudity: self explanatory
- lewd: sexual/lewd content
- mh: mental health
- ph: physical health
- uspol, canpoli, etc.: US, Canadian, etc. politics
- (+/-/~): the post is positive/negative/so-so

@auschwitzmuseum Mostly, your toots don’t need to be behind a content warning. People still have the mute option available if they wants to opt out for a while. #contentwarnings

There is no actual CW police on #Mastodon. You can do what you want. But, don’t be surprised if people mute/block/don’t boost you. #ContentWarnings

Ah ha, it worked. @dougholton An example of a tweet originating in Protected Twitter space without any followers being reposted on Mastodon via moa.party. This means my existing formulas with Pocket, IFTTT, moa.party can continue to work without interruption, without being viewable on Twitter by the public (but viewable on Mastodon by anyone). Gee, does that make sense?

Today's #APOD #picture is NOT from #JWST, but from the #Hubble #space #telescope (#HST / #NASA / #ESA). This #photography of the planetary #nebula NGC6302 looks like a #butterfly. This is actually why it is called the Butterfly nebula. Although it looks like the young protostar L1527 recently observed by #JWST, NGC6302 is dead #star. The central white dwarf is actually one of the hottest known: 200,000 K !
