@georgetakei It's great to be HERE, but to also be there...to participate...is to perpetuate a system that attacks and degrades. If we're not there...there will be no there.

My kid is doing British Lit in tenth grade, and his syllabus is all white men. I’d love to present some other options, at least for future. His school is for autistic kids and so there are many LDs to consider—the teacher seems to be choosing shorter works in general. Does anyone have suggestions that might work for 14/15 year olds? Novels, essays, short stories, poetry—any genre?

I see #Toots from new participants (?#mastodoners) saying this place is glitchy, unsustainable, etc.

My thoughts:
1) let's be #grateful🙏 there is a place to gather that is not #Twitter, not #toxic and is ad-free. Isn't that the point of #twittermigration?

2) let's thank people such as @nick for setting up new servers.

3) let's chip in, #contribute in anyway we can. #Mastodon is open-source. It's not owned by one person who treats his employees with disrespect.

4) let's #bekind

I know that many people have relied on Twitter as a venue to promote their crafts, so given the current atmosphere I was happy to see that there's a Mastodon neighborhood for people's shops (separate from personal accounts)

When it comes to greenhouse gas emissions, the worst of the plant foods studied is better than the best of the meats studied.

If you'd give up just one meat, from a carbon perspective alone, beef is the one.
