I really am not trying to judge too quickly.

But if you know (1) a site's owner pals around with white nationalists and far-right extremists, (2) that same owner amplifies more and more extremist rhetoric by the day, (3) the man absolutely trashes his workforce, and (4) engaging with that site makes him richer...

... if you know all this, and you're STILL waiting for the platform to crash before you disengage?

I think that communicates something about one's ethical priorities, is all.

Come on. #Twitter probably isn't shutting down anytime soon. It's just rapidly turning into an awful hive of trolls & far-right extremists, run by an egomaniacal shitposter.

And every day you stay active there, you support what it's becoming.

That's hard to internalize, because you love what Twitter was and still kinda like what it still sometimes is. But that's where we are.

This raises the question in my head if Mastodon could ever be the place i hoped for as an educator. But the truth is, there's isn't anywhere. It's been better here, but systemic racism is baked into everything. Which means, doing away with CWs except for things that don't matter (e.g. spoilers).

It might do so by virtue of creating, say, a Black instance. But that ...risks ghettoizing the Black community in a federated space. All of the Black people go here and instances have the option of engaging with them or deeding from them...

You need to think about the very real dangers of a federated structure in a society organized around white supremacy. You could easily have an entire instance of right-wing white supremacists pop up that would engage in targeted harassment of users of color."

Ok, getting verified wasn't as hard as I thought it would be on Blogger/blogspot and Wordpress sites. HOWEVER, forget about it on Google Sites. I tried embedding the verification code from Mastodon to no avail (embedding was easy, having it work, no).

Anyone figure out how to verify a Google Sites website? @edutooters
