I'm seeing headlines like "Scientists just made a wormhole to learn more about traversing space and time" in response to this recent Nature paper:

In fact, from what I can tell, they ran a computation on a quantum computer that would correspond to a certain quantum field theory if you expanded it from a limited number of quantum bits to an infinite number. And that quantum field theory has a conjectured relationship (duality) to General Relatively in 1+1 dimensional Anti-De Sitter space (which is neither the dimensionality nor geometry of spacetime that we actually inhabit). They did a calculation on the quantum computer that should approximate a quantum teleportation in the field theory, which (if the conjectured duality is true) should correspond to traversing a wormhole.

Now, I think that's an interesting result, but I also think it's being way overhyped to the public, and people are imagining that someone has built a literal wormhole in their lab. I suppose there's a certain symmetry, though, since I have always thought that the name "quantum teleportation" over-hypes that technology and gives laypeople a totally incorrect, Star Trek-y impression of what's happening.

Die augenscheinlich koordinierte Aktion stört ein internationales Publikum dabei, sich über die Proteste zu informieren.

Man muss erstmal einige Accounts wegblocken, um überhaupt etwas zu finden. Zusätzlich funktioniert die Blockfunktion gerade nicht zuverlässig.

Witzig ist aber auch: Durch die massive Spam-Aktivität ist der Hashtag in den Trends.

Das erste Computerprogramm ist ca. 40 Jahre älter als Dynamit. Da stimmt doch auch was nicht!

I do like it here on Mastodon, but the huge influx of people from Twitter means there are far fewer image descriptions than from even a couple of weeks ago. I’d love to tell every one of them about this, but quite frankly there are so many I don’t have the patience. I’d dearly love it if apps could block posts unless an image description was added to every photo, but I suppose that’s too much to hope for. I’m feeling really excluded from so many conversations. It’s getting as bad as Twitter.

Ok it’s clear to me now…the wealthiest man on the planet intends to get richer by using honeypot tweets like this to whip otherwise sane people into to a constant state of fear that extremists are taking over the country.

This not free speech. It’s a 2-minute-hate stretched into a 24/7 primal scream, orchestrated by a soulless billionaire for his own financial gain and amusement.
