@trinsec
Probably the upheaval in islam will come with the modern technology :ablobblewobble:
@freemo

Videocalled with a buddy for almost 6 hours using sign language. Talked about every topic imaginable. Ended up cutting off the conversation after 3:00 in the night because, well.. it's fucking late.

Excuse me while I'm going to be a zombie for the rest of the day.

@trinsec
currently, even translating the Quran is considered unholy so muslims just read it without understanding it
@freemo

@fribbledom So I'm in.
my 2020 experience was not the worst. Starting in summer, I took some time for exercising (first time in my life) after 2 months I was capable of running 10km in one go (before that, I was exhausted by just moving up stairs). In september I got my Bsc-degree from University, in parallel to 40 hours of work per week and obviously Corona.
At work, I developed a message-protocol, that is now powering ~1 Million (renewable energy) devices worldwide.
So 2020 wasn't too bad ;)

@trinsec
yeah it's a bot post, but I don't really mind bots when they post interesting stuffs. This one posts interesting maps and stuffs.

The post was of a map to taunt the Natherlands

@trinsec @freemo
possibly the change in Christianity came through the Renaissance, which till yet has not happened for Islam.

@freemo Yes, Islam actually WAS ahead of its time like 1000 years ago. Somehow they regressed after then. To me it shows that the more strict the doctrine, the more backwards it gets. 1000 years ago Christianity was the strict one. In some countries here it still is, and those countries are also kinda backwards in my eyes.

Interesting fact of the day:

Islamic medicine was well ahead of its time when it came to the treatment of the mentally ill. the Quran demanded the those with mental illness be taken care of and treated kindly, this was reflected in how doctors of the time cared for the mentally ill and very much a departure from the attitudes of other cultures at the time where the mentally ill were demonized or quite literally treated as possessed.

Here is the specific quote from the quran translated to english:

"Do not give your property which God assigned you to manage to the insane: but feed and clothe the insane with this property and tell splendid words to them." -- Sura 4:5

@Science

#Malawi Airlines has only three fleets, one Boeing 737-700 and two Dash 8.

When the foreign minister last week used the only Boeing to visit northern #Somalia, the airline had to cancel all flights and leave many costumers stranded.

Welcome to #Africa

How much long drive is it from your town to the 'end of the world' road something in north norway.

@thor @tombies@social.tchncs.de
probably it's due to the higher moisture in Oslo air as it is on the coast and your town is not on coast?

@thor @tombies@social.tchncs.de
that's not how physics was supposed to work though :blobcatglaredrink:

@thor @tombies@social.tchncs.de
I hope your town is filled with booze. It would also be much colder up there as it is way up north?

ah, yes, the corona tracking app that was rushed, and then pulled due to privacy concerns, and then went FOSS and revised a gajillion times until it was basically useless, because you can't track where have been and and also protect their privacy. even more useless now, that the vaccines are coming.

frankly should've just kept the damned thing as-is and just told people "this is going to track your every move, are you okay with that?"

of course, data protection laws would've kicked in and given them trouble with that, so... basically, it was dead upon conception.
