One very good example of this is the KolibriOS

While ofcourse 16 mb is not something which you are gonna run a full blazing OS and all modern feature full apps on it but still what I see today is that people just keep buying more powerful stuffs even though their work could easily be done with a low resource device or system. A big reason behind this being the application developers giving no mind to optimization and performance (just see Android Studio)
