Major ports like Narvik which was the transportation choke for the iron ore of Scandinavia was very important to the Germans so yess they did focus on developing infrastructure in Northern Norway for protecting it.
On the Soviet Union's part in defeating Nazis, yess very very true. There is very simplicity to this that USA was oceans away from both the threats so it's strategy with fighting war was always the way which will give itself the least losses, their focus was rather more on supplying weapons to Britain and France (Business!!)
On the other side, Nazi Germany swiftly chunk over Soviet Union while Stalin was thinking that the peace treaty between the two meant something. Nazi Germany did two mistakes here, first it thought that USSR was almost finished, second it attacked the city named after Stalin. One thing dictators don't like is that their name comes under fire (How did Hitler forget this
). Soviet Union fought to win the war, not to keep the number of deads low so hence it won.

Kinda makes sense as their foundation is made of people running away from Europe ![]()

With no surprise, Unlike Britain, in USA & Canada a ton is equal to 907 Kg.
How did the Americans came up with this magic number?
Well the British Ton is 1016Kg or 2240 pounds (This makes sense as the imperial system works on multiples of 16).
But the Americans change it to 2000 pounds (well you it's easy to do maths with multiples of 10)
Now wonder why did USA didn't adopt metric even though it so much fucked up imperial system to adjust for multiples of 10 ??
@thor
Well they were using pounds and then it suddenly shifted to metrics but ofcourse common folks won't catch up to the change fast and to avoid any deliberate fault in giving the true weight of items of business the British decided to keep the 'ton' as it is and introduce the new one as tonne
@thor
Note that tonne and ton are actually different (tonne = 1000kg while ton = 1016kg) but in everyday use people don't really care
@thor
Well 'subtle' depends upon the spelling checker
A good example would 'ton' which in British English is 'tonne' but doesn't really make a difference and many people go for 'ton'
@thor
Most English spelling checker ignore subtle American and British differences
@thor
In British English it is written as 'metre'
