Our ancestors once stalked prey for days across open plains through blistering sun and moonless night. The beast, growing weary, would eventually succumb to the elements and its own sense of hopelessness.

I channel this memory as I summon patience after fifteen minutes in gentle pursuit of my feline housemate to deliver medicine, a war of wills nature never intended nor foresaw.

Failing to complete a relatively simple algorithm before calling it a day is a terribly demoralizing experience.

Do I refocus on the syntax, the flow, or the underlying structure?

How far am I willing to deviate from what I have to make someone else's ready-made not-quite-what-I-want solution fit?

Do I hammer it until I've got it down forward and backward, or do I wing it, ignore edge cases, and make room for the next algorithm so as not to lose sight of the big picture?
