anyway, good morning my lovely fedi friends, I will stop ranting now and just give you your card for today.
and the card in question just so happens to be the eight of pentacles! it feels very fitting that I pulled this card while taking a break from diligently filling in my application form for uni. there are a lot of things in life that really suck in the moment, but will benefit you once they’re finished and out of the way. life can’t be fun all the time, unfortunately
break’s over, back to figuring out student finance stuff… (kill me) ![]()
rambling about transphobia
ok so there are people who refuse to use they/them for others because they disagree with it politically, like they think nonbinary identities are “wrong” or signal the downfall of society or whatever so they just downright refuse to be respectful. like they’re misgendering you to make a “point”. and whilst I (obviously) disagree with that and I think it makes you a Major Asshole, I get that they are coming from their own perspective, I guess?
what I will NEVER understand however is the people who refuse to use they/them because it’s “grammatically incorrect”. like… no it isn’t? it really is as simple as that? if you live in an english-speaking country, you will use singular “they” every single day without even being aware of it. “oh no that person over there dropped their phone, quick try to get their attention so we can give it back” “I’m gonna kill whoever delivered my parcel, they literally drop-kicked it onto my fucking roof” I mean hell, even instagram notifications say “so-and-so added to their story”. I haven’t seen anybody complain that that is grammatically incorrect. because it isn’t!!!! singular they is so common!!!! and very much grammatically correct!
I feel like this second group is actually just people who want to be in the first group but are too cowardly to say their opinions outright, so they pretend that their concerns are entirely language-based — aaand they end up making no sense in the process.
(yes this is triggered by a conversation I had with someone about adira from star trek) (no I will not be humouring anyone in the replies who wants to try and act like singular “they” is somehow Against The Rules, we both know it isn’t true and I will block your ass without hesitation if you want to pretend otherwise)
