@thor like when in hawaii the sun is perpendicular and everything looks like a poorly detailed game?
I'm suddenly reminded of the guy on Mastodon who, without an introduction or anything, offered me a kiln... I said mate I'm not sure if I have any use for a kiln he said it's for free but you need to get it yourself because I don't have a car I said DUDE I DON'T EVEN LIVE IN THE UK so he was like DO YOU WANT THE KILN OR NOT
Check label dates before donating food. Make sure packages are factory sealed and cans aren’t dented. Focus on nutrient-rich, shelf stable items. When in doubt, contact the donation org and ask for details about what is needed and accepted.
Also don’t give them something you wouldn’t want to eat yourself, expired or not. Please don’t have that “They should be grateful for whatever they get” mentality. That is so inhumane.
I used to think you give people your old clothes, I'd wait for a cloth to be torn out to give it, as I grew I understood that nah, you gotta give the best, give what you want to receive. As long as you're not using it, it doesn't belong to you but the needy! Even if it's new. Same goes for food.
Expired or “best before” foods are fine if YOU bought them for yourself because YOU know when YOU bought them. Giving them to someone else is not nice. Quite apart from them possibly being “off” if they ARE off, they don’t get anything to replace them. That’s all they get.
People who have been displaced or are in need are still people and should not be given expired food because you think “at least it’s something” it’s not adequate.
