As a scientist I have an innate desire to want to use metric measurements. But as an someone born in America I also have a desire to use obscure measurements no other sane person in the civilized world would ever consider using.
As such I have decided that from now on I will use femtoparsecs and attoparsecs for all measurements of length.
I am 57.6 attoparsecs tall
My jeep gets 344 femtoparsecs to the liter
Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has listed his first ever tweet for sale, with bids reaching $2m (£1.4m).
“Just setting up my twttr,” the post, sent from Mr Dorsey’s account in March 2006, reads.
It will be sold as a non-fungible token (NFT) - a unique digital certificate that states who owns a photo, video or other form of online media.
But the post will remain publicly available on Twitter even after it has been auctioned off.
The buyer will receive a certificate, digitally signed and verified by Mr Dorsey, as well as the metadata of the original tweet. The data will include information such as the time the tweet was posted and its text contents.
What the fuck.
Scientists are such gamblers. I'm trying to make a presentation for a high school class on the genetics of schizophrenia, and just to talk about "genetic risk" requires understanding probabilities--like, what are the odds of drawing a straight flush? What if you've already got a King in your hand, how does that change the odds? Much of science is betting on what you think is going on. But just like in world class poker, you gotta study and practice, to know when to hold 'em... 😁 #academics
> Twitter is fun because you get to be like, “Ducks are good” and someone in your mentions will go, “Um, I’m sorry but my brother is married to a duck scientist and this is a harmful view” and then someone else pops up going, “Your silence about horses is extremely telling”
