@davoloid @pluralistic Imo, taking money from investors can be a deal with the devil and one they eventually want a return on.
@ct_bergstrom The E.U. appears to be embracing the fediverse, however, even if it isn't the fediverse, it's important to have avenues open which don't involve a large company.
@devnull Wait... NodeBB instances are joining the fediverse...? Wow, what have I been missing for the past few years.
That is very interesting.
Whatever your opinion on the #meta #p92 stuff is, I want to make one thing clear —
If you're involved in contracts and/or managing accounts *even a little*, you'll probably already know that NDAs are signed early and signed often.
Potential collab.? NDA.
Vendor relationship? NDA.
Ask what their engineers had for lunch? You bet your ass that's an NDA.
So the fact that some #MastoAdmin signed NDAs with Meta is just a rather minor data point with little significance.

@hazz223 To be honest, I've always suspected view counts were inflated, maybe not even intentionally.
And if you view something twice (or it gets inserted into your feed twice...), it probably counts that twice.
@hazz223 In theory, he could just go into the database, change the number of a view column to 500,000,000, and it would have a view count of over 500 million
The implementation might be a bit different than that, although same in principle.
For starters, abolishing first past the post would be a good idea...
I don't think this other idea of selecting random people from the population is workable for a number of reasons.
