Quick question for UK Mastodonians. Was filling its waterways with human excrement the very first thing Britain did with its new "freedom", or did the blue passport thing come first?

@vitriolix @ipstenu @Popehat
I stay off because I'm sure they're talking shit about me and I wouldn't want to cramp their style.

@m @Popehat And of course the impunity of shoddy UK tabloids shows that there's still plenty of Mail privilege.

@Popehat I'm still sorry that with the passing of Rik, there's no longer such a thing as Mayall privilege.

@Popehat Where is this neighborhood? Thinking of opening a pop-up shop selling pitchforks and firebrands.

Once when I was killing time before going to a show in Santa Fe by nosing around a New Age shop. I overheard someone calling out to the proprietress: "Oh, Charlotte Ann..."

Talk about nominative determinism

@pieist "Schnozz requires that you sever and eat your own testicles, so that you live a live of cool objectivity. Also, we dont' want you to reproduce"

@JohnShirley2023 I hear and long to obey O destroyer of falsity, but if i don't have kids, who's going to pose with me holding automatic weapons for our annual family postcard?

@JohnShirley2023 .... hey... tell me more, truthbringer! *Sits crosslegged with an expression of beatific receptivity*

@JohnShirley2023 (Though in a lot of cases they had others of an occasionally blood-freezing nature.)

@JohnShirley2023 I have what I hope is a healthy scepticism of Noble Savage narratives, but in my own ignorant lay way have encountered a lot of credible --popularized -- anthrpological studies to suggest that primitive cultures don't by any means inevitably share the vices and blind spots that the current hegemonic one has.

@JohnShirley2023 There are definitely aspects of human culture it would be bad if they extirpated. Even if people responsible for them were typically given -- to put it mildly -- no honour in their own time.

@JohnShirley2023 I no longer imagine that any alien race would subjugate us for natural resources or slave labor -- one is ubiquitious in the universe and the other is superfluous if you have the kind of technology that would enable them to get here.

But I wonder if a planet that is so constructed as to maintain a fairly stable goldilocks climate and ecosystem for billions of years might be uncommon enough to be coveted. And whether aliens capable of appreciating that might be better stewards of it than we are.

@RollingStone Clearly the conniving old coot spent the entire night before removing the classified markings with a bottle of white-out.

@Buildchimp @KarlBode "...also highly public because I'm too vain to be capable of embarrassment."

@Buildchimp @KarlBode Or even, "I fired everyone who could tell me what's going on, so I'm taking a uselessly naive swing at investigating it myself."
