@liaizon NotForLongNote
Surely he has hordes of groupies who fling themselves at him, screaming "monetize me!!!"
@amayer @GreenFire @IAm_THEPaulina
What, they can spell out "Putin has stank-breath" in the sky or something?
@Landcombatmissiles On top of all the other restitution they're going to have to pay, it's going to cost Russia billions to demine the place.
@rubenbolling Finally, the "Titanic tourist" submersible of the air!
@rubenbolling "But to avoid automobile crash test laws ..."
Yes, I totally want that flying machine from a company unwilling to comply with even the most basic transportation safety regs.
Maybe I'm being a little too harsh. Most of the engagement I get here is great and a lot of fun, but I find strangers explaining things I know to me more annoying than random vile trolls on birdsite. Although with the marked uptick in trolls it has been pretty awful.
In the student loan case, SCOTUS held that the text of the law passed by Congress allowed Biden to do exactly what he did, but the GOP Justices didn't feel like he should, and therefore they were not going to let him.
Yep. I'd be delighted if there were turnkey open-source home automation solutions. Having experimented with hassio and friends, there's nothing there for the ordinary user.
I'm a very experienced netops software engineer and my reaction to these is "you've got to be kidding". They're preposterously bloated and require a huge investment of time and energy to get any work out of them.
I've done some compact and efficient work in that area for my own fun but it's not ready for prime time. Hopefully I'll get enough free time to package them well enough for others to use.
@feditips They're all going to sod off again when Musk relents and makes Twitter even a little bit usable again, so I wouldn't get excited.
@mmasnick Please stop saying that things fall to the ground because of gravity. They disproved that last week. It's not that.
They really are a poor value. Expense, effort and exposure to risk, in return for a level of convenience which is in practice almost completely hypothetical.
I've got a few smart bulbs and outlets but only ones that could be reflashed with open-source firmware. They don't phone home to the cloud, and I pretty much control them vie their own built-in web APIs.
With lots of very nerdy effort you can make your own smart home with Siri and MQTT --- I did all this and then realized I didn't actually need it... at this point I'd actually have to go rummage around and find my old code if I wanted to tell anyone else how to do it.
@GustavinoBevilacqua @Erik
Okay, it'd take me an nour NOW. It probably took me a day or so to set it up initially and I think I had to add some code to a python based webserver I'd written to access cameras and crap. So yeah, massive nerdiness is a prerequisite.
@GustavinoBevilacqua @Erik MQTT plus Siri and you can do this stuff under your own roof. Takes an hour of fiddling around and a few cycles from any always-on box you happen to be using already.
@semioticstandard I used to think that selling one of your kidneys was bad but when they outlawed it I realized that eliminated a valuable source of income for the poor
As Emily Post advised us in her most famous work, “Etiquette on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram”: “One should only post on Twitter to announce a birth, a marriage or a death in one’s family, leaving one’s followers’ quotas largely in reserve for the receipt of messages from disaster management authorities in regard to earthquakes, floods and wildfires.”
