Wondering "why the transparent handle?", then I google its year of introduction, and groan in recognition. I don't miss the transparent case trend. The iMac was fairly cute. Not much else was.

These sewage discharges in the UK are the result of increased extreme storm flows and decades of underinvestment by the water agencies Margaret Thatcher privatized in the late 1980s. Instead of reinvesting revenues in maintaining and upgrading infrastructure, they paid out billions to their shareholders while increasing their debt.

Dismayed to notice that in 2003 I published an article containing a sentence with an unmatched left parenthesis so that everything I’ve published in the last twenty years has been part of one extremely long parenthetical remark.

There's a maxim in medicine: When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses, not zebras. That's useful to remember as we wait for more info on childhood illnesses in #China. This sounds more like the legacy of its zero Covid policy than a new disease threat. statnews.com/2023/11/23/surge-

@JFRitte @gcluley Not ironically. That's precisely why whoever made this picture put him there.

@gcluley it's just occurred to me that Russell Tovey would be ideal to cast as Turing.

@alexf24 @globalmuseum Snobbery aside, it does no harm to help people visualize it easily in terms of a familiar frame of reference.

"A man's calibre is the inverse of that of his detractors. Therefore strive at all times to make utter tossrags disparage you."

Paradoxically, if being a dick is called for under the circumstances, then being a dick isn't being a dick.

@openculture The lyrics for the ending theme song for "WKRP In Cincinnati" were also deliberate gibberish noises meant simply to sound like rock lyrics.

@kaminenmosher On reading those two articles, I can only suppose that customs duty wasn't paid on it but they let it in anyway.
