Russian Telegram channels report that Arman Ospanov, a Russian colonel and head of the armored service of the Russian Airborne Forces, went to the occupied territories of Ukraine to raise the morale of personnel.

There, he stepped on a mine and died.

@transdiffusion If you've never seen the series he did based on Casablanca, it's worth a look at least as a curiosity. It's not actually terrible, the biggest problem for me is that in a modern transfer the sets etc. are entirely unconvincing, which is a problem for a lot of pre-2000 TV.

@andrewdessler I've always thought he left out a few key terms:

1. Most stars are in dense parts of the galaxy which are either under constant intense radiation or at least experience sterilization events (nearby supernovae, basically) at too-frequent intervals for advanced life to have time to emerge.
2. There is no term for distance, to cover the fact that information cannot travel faster than light. E.G. if a civilization emerged within the last 50,000 years, but is 50,000 light years away, we still wouldn't have heard from it.

@ct_bergstrom The foetid stew of rightwing buzzwords above and below that pull-quote tell you everything need to know about the writer. I won't be tempted to read the article.

@randahl Overwhelmingly the best thriller miniseries I've seen lately is "Slow Horses". Don't miss it, it's tremendous. Be patient with the first couple of episodes: All Is Not As It Seems.

@randahl It is a lot of fun. The second series (which is not quite complete yet) has more action but less charm.
