Hate to say this but they kinda are doing that.

Well, let's go for some trite, popular signifiers:
Hitler was a vegetarian. Hitler was evil. True or false: "vegetarianism is evil."
@RollingStone Y'know, the fact that the worst people in the world think something is bad is not in any sense evidence that it isn't, y'know, bad.
@ct_bergstrom Gotta say the respected tweators who announced they were jumping on post really startled me. "This has gone to hell, pardon me while I move to something that holds no promise whatsoever of being at best every bit as bad."

Hell, I'll be hours unpacking the ideas in that reply.
One that springs to mind immediately: the Antebellum South had a lot in common with British aristocratic rule: it was basically feudalism. So maybe not so surprising. Not what one expects from New Jersey, but hey, what Ivy League uni resembles its host state or city? (I have family in New Haven, mmmkay?)
@JohnShirley2023 I'm sure there's a spoonerific pun around "swirls before pine" but damned if I can come up with it right now.
@ct_bergstrom This is why my wife only uses the website on her laptop and will not install the app.
@tomlevenson @NYTimes Perhaps I'm naive about the ivy league but that seems like remarkably shitty writing for a Princeton senior. Do they really reward petitio principii and unsourced claims?
@JohnShirley2023 Well the ones they're selling to Russia are pretty basic, and reportedly people are stealing Rotax light aircraft engines from small European airfields to sell to them.
I'd need a lot of persuading that they (or NK) have anything that would surprise us technologically.
@JohnShirley2023 Interesting. The only terrestrial power I can imagine being capable of such things is China -- now that we've seen just how worthlessly corrupt Russian miltech industry is. The cheesy balloons don't exactly suggest it's China either, unless that's a very clever misdirection indeed.

First I realized something was going on was one someone handed me a glass of cabernet, I took a sip and went: wow, I think I've found my perfect everyday red. I looked at the bottle expecting something pricy. It was something you could find for $10 in most supermarkets.
@statsguy @brudibrau @harphat The other factor is that over the same period the science of winemaking has matured into methods that produce repeatable high quality results with less reliance on luck. With the interesting effect that a fairly new winery is likely to be better than many established ones, because they're not sticking to old ways. Terrific wines are proliferating all over the world.
@grafphoto @chrischirp What bird food mix is that? Most of what I find around here is 90% millet, which most birds don't get excited about. Yours looks like 0%.
@SwiftOnSecurity Some customized mastondon instances support quote-tweeting, but only as seen on those instances, not for all viewers.

@JohnShirley2023 If I were to lose control and have a terrible car crash it'd be nice to think some good came of it.
