"Success has many fathers, but not as many as the original recording of 'Wipe Out' had rhythm guitarists."

‘Entrenched #CarCulture’ leaves millions in #transport #poverty: theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/j

"The solution is simple – building networks of safe, segregated cycle routes in towns and cities across the #UK would turn #cycling into a genuine option for millions of people, helping them break out of car dependence and the huge costs associated with that.”

Just found this on a shelf in my downstairs office. An unopened box of Necco Cyber Speak candy from the 1990s.

I'm delighted to find that and now work effortlessly and flawlessly out of the box in the current , v. 3.17.

Even launching unprivileged containers as a non-root user works without error and with minimal configuration effort.

As nearly as I can tell, this makes Alpine the only linux distro other than Ubuntu that this is true of. And it does it with its standard repositories, none of your snaps nonsense. Nice to finally have an ultra-lightweight, systemd-free distro for hosting Linux .

The only branch of the government NOT working is the one branch voters decided Republicans should run.

Best line from the film Logan. One of the best lines of any film:

Charles: "We should help them."
Logan: "Someone will come along."
Charles: "Someone _has_ come along."

Today the Tory PM pledged to partially address a fraction of the crises his government has spent the last 12 years creating and feeding. Huzzah

Exactly 14 years ago , Satoshi Nakamoto designed the most pathetic / inefficient system ever invented by humankind : the blockchain.

Today, it weights 60 000 tons, wastes constantly 10 gigawatts .. to process less than 7 transactions per second :

Less than a 33 bps modem from 1990.

This could be joke if it didn't have such gigantic environmental impact, wasn't enabling billion dolllars ransomware industry and was not crushing thousands of lives in the process.

I wonder what percentage of those who now decry sending support the defense of would feel the same if it were being invaded by Muslims, Mexicans, or just anyone brown?

By my faultlessly and unimpeachably scientific process I've determined that 87% of people who ask "why are we sending billions to when [some number of] Americans lack [something]?" would decry it as Filthy unAmerican if you ever proposed that the government give [something] to [some number of Americans].

Y'know what really sucks? When you're walking along some wooded country lane, and you come to a nice village, and then some white-bearded elder with an unfortunate touch of divine insight sees you, points a trembling, bony finger and cries out

"Evil! Evil! Destroy it! Destrooooy iiiiit!"

And then all the villagers come after you with pitchforks and firebrands and send you back to the pit of hell from whence you came.

I hate it when that happens.

The only SF author I know of who predicted a near-future pocketable phone / digital wallet was Mack Reynolds.

We started to watch David Letterman's interview of President Zelensky on Netflix.

David Letterman is a terrible, terrible interviewer.

Reminder that in 3 days the House will be controlled by the party that "investigated" Benghazi SIX times the last time it was in power.
