I finally managed to get my daughter interested enough AI art enough to try some prompting of her own, and she immediately put Midjourney to the task of creating a new profile picture for one of her many online accounts.

On this fifth day of Christmas, I hope Santa is taking time for himself. Maybe relaxing, maybe getting some sun.

I asked Midjourney what that might look like.

Audrey, a co-worker, recalled a train ride from Milwaukee she had taken to visit relatives in New Orleans, late '50s, early '60s.

Upon arrival, she noticed an ice cream stand. Being all of 8 yrs. old, she excitedly ran to the stand. What she didn't notice was the "Whites Only" sign.

The counterman ignored her repeated request to buy ice cream.

A white woman noticed & demanded that he serve her. Audrey got her ice cream; she was lucky she wasn't harmed.

One of the things I have liked about Mastodon is the encouragement to put alt-text on images. But as others have noticed, the more the network of mastodonians grows, the proportion of images with alt-text goes down.

It's not hard - please please PLEASE add alt-text to your images, even if it's just a quick note, and better if it's more descriptive.

@trinsec I'll take a look around. I have to admit, I was focused on writing some Go code until I stumbled across the page above, *not* in pursuit of anything Fediverse-related, but in pursuit of tuning my NAS! For all I know there are docker images of everything out there and I just haven't looked!

@trinsec I am aware of both, but there is not (so far as I know) an easy docker stack install for Akkoma or Misskey for my NAS.

I've been noodling around with some Golang ActivityPub libraries, since I'd prefer Golang over Elixir or Ruby or Javascript, but the idea of a near-pushbutton install is still appealing.

It’s tempting to install Mastodon on my NAS just to have a single-user server to play around with. Apparently it’s as easy as 1, 2, uh, 27!

https://mariushosting.com/how-to-install-mastodon-on-your-synology-nas/

I’m not entirely sure what I would do with such a thing, and that box is already busy running a few other things, but it’s a nice option to have at my fingertips. Plus I already have a wildcard SSL cert, so I can skip quite a few steps!

@bryantd This is quite a one-two punch, since I missed your first post on the subject.

Criminal justice is rarely just, and even when it is, it is really hard to feel satisfied. I know I should be glad when justice is served, I know I should. It’s just hard.
