Picking up tacos at Rusty Taco, there are signs about tacos, natch. The t-shirts worn by employees carry a restaurant slogan: “God. Country. Tacos.” I’m not entirely sure how they square those priorities with repurposing Joshua 24:15 into Salsa 24:7, which seems mildly sacrilegious to me, but the tacos are good.
My daughter wants beef tacos for lunch, so I asked MidJourney for help.
The "beef tacos" are almost normal, but the "beef soft tacos" have unusual titles add for no obvious reason, and definitely no benefit.
Today I tried a few new prompts, no refinements, just simple phrases. These are from MidJourney, and my settings are: MJ version 4, Base quality, Style med, Regular upscale.
The v4 model often seems to add titles where none are needed or wanted, but overall I found all eight images pleasing. The waterfront pics don't look like Hong Kong at all, but they're all nice-looking waterfronts. The night market pics look more like Hong Kong, except all the Chinese writing is broken.
In this context, it is in no way surprising that #BlackMastodon has repeatedly been rebuffed and destroyed by the rest of Mastodon. Whether by a concerted effort by everyone, or the bad actions of a few, allowed to happen and enabled to persist by the rest of us, the result is inevitably the same.
This is why I keep saying: it is not enough for you to just be okay with #justice. It is not enough for you to tolerate marginalized people. If you truly want diversity, you must fight for it. 4/4
Check out this cool visualization of where Americans live

@xine the whole thing does seem very middle-school to me. I say that as a parent to a middle schooler!
I recently returned from a trip to Auckland, New Zealand, to visit my wife's younger son. While driving from the airport, while speaking to his girlfriend in the front seat, he referred to the three of us sitting in the back seat as "three Americans."
I smiled and waited for my wife or daughter to object, but they didn't. Conversation continued, and finally I said that I was still stuck about fifteen minutes before, when he referred to his mother and sister, both born and raised in Hong Kong, as "Americans." They both said they noticed, but since they're permanent residents now, it seemed fair. They both first set foot in the USA in 2019, but now they're Americans.
Sometimes I love the USA.
@sebastian_hos I did wonder about the unlisted thing. Or rather, I wondered about the open-lock icon, and figured out it meant unlisted. That seems fine? It's still visible to all, so my response comments have some context, but it doesn't show up on timelines.
Perhaps I should use unlisted more myself for comments on posts, rather than posts. I'll start now!
@Glupinickname I had the same thought while listening to the audiobook. He works in so many relatable and even profound thoughts between very strange events about monsters from alternate universes!
"Gamergate was a test for how much pushback a decentralized hate movement would receive when it wore a disguise as convincing as two children in a trenchcoat with a pair of Groucho Marx glasses. And this industry failed that test spectacularly."
This is a great piece by @BrendanSinclair on the games industry's failure to meet the moment when Gamergate was unfolding in 2014 and the its ongoing failure to do so since then.

@sebastian_hos Thank you. I curse the typos that are not editable!
Sometimes what people call "virtue signaling" is really virtue, sometimes it's done out of real concern, and sometimes yeah it's a social signaling. In this case I think it's more about the second case, misguided concern, but I tend to shy away from the label most of the time, so I maybe I'm overly assuming the best.

Thank you 😊
