@GustavinoBevilacqua Damn, I should stop getting my news from the packaging of the products I buy.

I'd better do another #introduction now I've moved my #fediverse home.

Hi, I'm Dave. I'm a Principal Laboratory #Research #Scientist (aka. Scientific officer) at the Francis Crick Insititute in #London.

I'm a #StructuralBiologist by training. I help run a group that studies #Kinase #signaling in human #health and #disease.

Is it true that in Belgium you don't recycle aluminium? That sounds absurd to me...

@chimicredodiessere meno male che l'hanno tolta, non si sa mai che la gente cominci ad andare in bici.
Complimenti all'autore 😉

Being a bit of a newbie (like most of us are!), here's a 'how to...?' question. Something like ecoevo.social would be a relevant instance for me but I already switched instances once, am not too unhappy with being in a general science one, and would like to avoid switching instances continually. So: is there an easy way for me to see a list of all ecoevo.social members without being a member oneself? That would make it easier to start following people I'm likely to want to follow.....

@oblomov @atomicpoet I'm actually quite surprised they're not doing that already.
Their competitors are investing pretty hard in openstreetmaps to lower the value of Google Maps.
I think the investment in openstreetmaps is overall quite good for the project itself.

I guess Google might be better off paying some developers to work for the fediverse to improve the systems and so on rather than opening their own instance.
They won't be making money off off it, but if that helps taking down the user base of Twitter, that will make them more prominent among the other tech companies.

@entreprecariat @raphv@social.apreslanu.it I'd be interested in knowing how you'd publish a zettelkasten for others to read.
I have seen some examples, but in general zettelkasten seems like a terrible way to share information with other people.

@entreprecariat Just dump all stuff in here, make sure that the first post is public and all the other ones are marked as unlisted.
When you make a new toot reply to the last one and make it public so that other people see that.

Alternatively, you can publish everything detached without a thread and link them with a common hashtag

@rastinza Since you personally don't like favourites, I'm just acknowledging your comments - thanks! ;)

@Jeroenson Cool, my sister just started studying university over there.
I hope I'll soon be able to go visit her, also to visit the university and meet the wonderful research groups I've been told about.

@bookgaga @ralf That is the only use there is: favourites have no utility for the social itself.
The person you favourites gets a notification about it.
It's pretty much like saying: I like what you said but I have nothing to add and still wanted you to know about it.

If you really like a post you should boost it to let others know about it.
Liking a post is mainly for when someone has been kind to you but what he wrote isn't so important that you want to share it with other people.
In general, you shouldn't like posts too much but rather reply to them.

@rastinza I mostly use the Federated TL to find annoying accounts to mute. In a way, that solves the problem of it being a moving target—eventually.

@davoloid

@josemanuel @davoloid I tried doing that; it works for a few days maybe but it's not a sustainable endeavour.
A bunch of new accounts are created every day.
