Why isn’t my doctor masked in the ER?

They might be anti-mask, but usually that’s not the case. Most of us masked for 2.5 years, 8-12 hours a day, shift after shift. What changed? The main thing is that requirements were lifted. We spent those 2.5 years being berated by people for us wearing masks. Once masking mandates were lifted, it became a pointless fight to try to stop nosocomial COVID spread. Nurses, techs, other patients, custodial staff — none are masked. But there’s more to it…1/

The other big issue is patient satisfaction scores. See, when we wear a mask, but nobody else does, patients tend to give us lower scores on things like doctor communication. Those scores are often tied to contracts and/or compensation. They are *very* important to hospital admin types. So here we are, getting punished for protecting our most vulnerable patients. 2/
