So much modern tech leadership is based on a mental model of "machine" rather than "ecosystem". When reading some guru wisdom or another scaling framework, ask: "do they assume a machine or are they enabling an ecosystem?" because we need less machine and more ecosystem.

@dkiesow @mmasnick @jeffjarvis Any code that I wrote more than a few days ago was written by somebody else. And that guy was probably a moron.

In software development, finish lines do happen, of course they do. But they don't happen nearly as often as developers invoke the FINISH-LINE frame.

When we lean on this frame too heavily, we're prone to making decisions that might help us *win* this race while *losing* everything that comes after.

FINISH-LINE can encourage us to cheat, it can tell us that rest isn't important, it can easily create rigid and unchangeable systems. And remember, software development *is* change.

I have a favor to ask. If you work in #infosec, as a #programmer, or other tech-connected job, please take a look at what data your company collects and whether some might be relevant to #ReproductiveHealth.

Are you in a position to change that or at least protect the data better? Can you push your org in the right direction? Please do.

This is no longer an abstract issue. People are doing to jail.

It’s such a weird idea: that we have *destroyed* Scott Adams’ reputation, simply by observing that he has said the things he said. That your income should be guaranteed after advocating a racially separatist state, as if being a racist fuckwit puts you in a protected class.

When Republicans are in power, they rack up giant deficits, mainly by cutting taxes on corporations and the wealthy.

Then when Democrats take the reins, Republicans blame them for being spendthrifts.

It's the same story every time.

If you want a really solid critique, it's actually here too. They put their *all* into this piece and while it's sarcastic as usual, it really does cover *so many* aspects of how horrible the current trend of "news" in this space has been.

Big tech interviews are so much overkill compared to the job. Engineers spend weeks on leetcode only to be asked to create a button in a UI. Product managers memorize product sense frameworks only to schedule meetings and ask lawyers if it’s OK to ship a feature (it’s always no).
