Lesen! Alastair Reynolds: EVERSION

Wikipedia is now on Mastodon, at @wikipedia!

They've taken an interesting approach here, as it is an account run by the community, where everyone can contribute (explanation here: meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/@Wikip). At the same time, it is verified on the official homepage of wikipedia.org, as you can see in the screenshot.

Personally, I think this suits the spirit of the fediverse that the Wikipedia account is not a PR department, but community members building something together!

We are always trying to understand how we can better control our privacy on the internet, and your choice web browser to use is among the most important decisions you can make. We used EFF's "Cover your tracks" website (https://coveryourtracks.eff.org) to compare six different well-known browsers for web tracking and browser fingerprinting.

Tor browser apparently provided the strongest protection against web tracking and contained fingerprinting uniqueness to 1 in about 46k. They try to provide a uniform fingerprint across devices, allow you to hide in a crowd. Brave, on the other hand, takes a different approach. While they provided only some protection against web tracking, but they constantly randomize the fingerprint, providing "very strong" protection against indentification through fingerprinting. We arranged the results in the order that we perceived each browser's privacy benefits.

There was no discernable privacy protection at all with Chrome and Edge browsers.

Our analysis was done on April 18, 2023.

TOR
"Our tests indicate that you have STRONG protection against Web tracking."
Uniqueness: 1 in 45914.0
This browser has a fingerprint that conveys 15.49 bits of identifying information.

BRAVE
"Our tests indicate that you have SOME protection against Web tracking, but it has some gaps."
"Your browser fingerprint has been randomized among the 229,589 tested in the past 45 days. Although sophisticated adversaries may still able to track you to some extent, randomization provides a VERY STRONG protection against tracking companies trying to fingerprint your browser."
Your browser has a fingerprint that conveys at least 17.81 bits of identifying information.

MULLVAD,
"Our tests indicate that you have some protection against Web tracking, but it has some gaps."
Uniqueness: 1 in 114734.5
This browser has a fingerprint that conveys 16.81 bits of identifying information.

FIREFOX
"Our tests indicate that you have STRONG protection against Web tracking."
Your browser fingerprint appears to be unique among all browsers tested in the past 45 days.
This browser has a fingerprint that conveys at least 17.81 bits of identifying information.

CHROME
"Our tests indicate that you are NOT protected against tracking on the Web."
Your browser fingerprint appears to be unique among all browsers tested in the past 45 days.
Your browser has a fingerprint that conveys at least 17.81 bits of identifying information

EDGE
"Our tests indicate that you have SOME protection against Web tracking, but it has some gaps."
