Ancient Spartan poetry:
"Let a man learn how to fight by first daring to perform mighty deeds,
Not where the missiles won't reach, if he is armed with a shield,
But getting in close where fighting is hand to hand, inflicting a wound
With his long spear or his sword, taking the enemy's life,
With his foot planted alongside a foot and his shield pressed against shield,
And his crest up against crest and his helm up against helm
And breast against breast, embroiled in the action—let him fight man to man,
Holding secure in his grasp haft of his sword or his spear!" - Tyrtaeus

Well SHA-256 is used for mining but ECDSA is used for Bitcoin's signatures. I'm not saavy enough to know if 1. The claims about RSA are true and 2. If the same principles apply to ECDSA.

Looking for someone with more cryptography knowledge to help explain...

@georgevaccaro @lukedashjr @nvk

bitcoin uses sha-265 not RSA

...but if RSA is cracked it's a big deal for internet security

from what I understand RSA uses fancy elliptical curves and prime numbers to cypher

sha-265 is just a big dirty "let's express the entire message as a single integer and scramble it using an algorithm" and it just sort of works

funnily enough the latter is more resistant to quantum computing

not my field of expertise by any stretch but I wouldn't sell all your bitcoin just yet.

@noelle a brief search suggests nothing good about Kevin Strom, but he appears to have stumbled across the truth here.

Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me a hundred times, I might be trusting the plan.
